My dear friend, let's call him Bob, sent this letter to me today.
I am showing it to let you see what we are keeping our cool, anything else would make us incinerate.
Besides, it's in the high 80's already....
The note is ver batum, the photo is officially in the newspaper in that county, and the writer gave his permission to let me post it here.
====================
Visualize the photo as a full page adWent up home yesterday to kick my mother's tax materials into a pile, and, while on extraneous errands, ran into a guy I used to know thirty years ago. As you can see, he is a little worse for wear, and he seems to have forgot that our political affiliations differ about as widely as possible, that I no long live in Wilkes County, that I wouldn't vote for him if I could.
Anyhow, this is his fullpage ad in his bootless quest for the Sheriff's chair.
He asked me to attend his May 2 rally at the ballpark there in Wilkes Co, promising 5,000 lbs of BBQ, thousands of hotdogs, and ten times as many helium balloons for der kinder. As an additional enticement, he said he would bring the 190 lb pot-bellied pig (raised from a piglet), which he planned to dress up like a sheriff, with a badge and all. (I observed that down in Forsyth County where I lived now, we had already done this: his name was Sheriff Schatzman. Willie said oh yeah he knew Schatzman).
I would not rate Willie's chances as very high, but Wilkes is a county that has not voted for a Democrat for president since Andrew Jackson. And a few months from now, both Mrs. G. W. Bush and Half-Governor S. Palin are scheduled to appear at some Republican Wimmen's event.
Regardless of the outcome of his own race, I hope Willie will keep an eye on 'em.
