But I'm sure most here don't give a shit. I for one will NOT be buying their jeans any longer, as a matter of fact they are going in the clothing donation bin, and I came this close

to buying a Carhartt coat on sale at Sears for next winter. The weird part is I thought they were made here (some USED to be, but no more) so I didn't look at the labels (my bad) but I am still pissed.

There, it wasn't about Tiger, Jessie, or soda and cigarettes for the poor.

I checked the www.unionlabel.com website and they have a few made in the U.S.A. Carhartts left but not the one I wanted.

1. There's a company that Ed Schultz advertises that is US made
He promotes them in his made in the US segment he has on his radio show from time to time. I think they sell jeans and work clothes... Check his website for a link.

2. last year
Carhart moved everything to Mexico. We no longer waste our hard earned dollars on their clothing.

3. I care.
Doesn't help much, but there it is.

I never liked their stuff as it was uncomfortable and I don't work outside in the weather, so my not buying it doesn't matter.

I stopped buying Levis when they off-shored. I wear Buddy's & All American (they're cheaper than Levis, too).

4. Thanks. Over 200 views, three comments. Shows you what matters around here.
Union made, people here don't give a shit. It's why WalMart flourishes. It's why the japanese get to sell cars which everyone believes are better than ours. It's why so many here who never lifted a finger doing manual labor or making ANYTHING that required a modicum of craftsmanship think than moving a mouse and letting a computer do the work is cooler than a piece of wood or metal that will outlast them. It's why crap from Ikea is popular and furniture made in America is not considered because it costs too much.

It's why our ideas are just that, ideas, and we rarely get to put them to good use while the Republicans eat our lunch because they act and don't vacillate. And because we'd rather debate the merits of buying American or supporting American factories, hundreds of thousands of jobs left these shores forever because all we wanted is cheap.

Every day I come a little bit closer to leaving. Because words don't mean shit around here either. Unless it's Huffington-style shit.

5. I don't think I've ever seen a Carhart jacket in real life.
I know John Kerry wore one during the campaign because teevee made a big deal about it.

Otherwise, I'd never heard of them.

Maybe it's something the Southern half of the country isn't very familiar with.

As for jobs going off shore - sigh.

And I don't shop at Walmart. I do walk there, as it's a place I can exercise safely late at night.

I pick up a couple of cheap doo-dads when I'm there to pay my rent for the use of the hall, but that's all. :)

11. Um, I think it's settled on the whole Japanese vs. American cars issue...
As it stands today, Japanese cars are far superior to our domestic brands -- I don't care if it's GM, Chrysler, or Ford. Not that we can't make a good car, we just choose not to for greater profit.

Classic American capitalism is to produce the lowest quality product with the highest profit margin that the market will continue to tolerate, not to produce the best.

16. Evidence? Because I got fed up with American cars in 2005...
Unless things have radically changed since I bought Japanese car number two about a year ago, I'll stick by my original statements.

18. All US cars are not alike. I had two late '80s Oldsmobiles that were maintenance free.
A friend's Saturn was the same.
Another friend's Focus also.

I love my VW, but they're expensive to keep maintained.

You're far behind the curve on this.

26. You're assuming I'm referring to maintenance...
I am not referring to maintenance or engine trouble. I mean, I could -- because my American-branded, Mexican-made vehicles were not without faults.

19. If you follow the news, Toyota is embroiled in perhaps the biggest quality scandal in recent history
The most recent allegations are of a cover up. Maybe the following link will help?

33. They defend the japanese and think we should accept their word
verbatim.

Not in this lifetime. If the quality goes in before the name goes on, should we engrave Toyota on the headstones of the dead due to their negligence?

24. Since you're going by empirical data
I've owned US makes, German makes and Japanese makes, the absolute least problematic car was my 2005 Chevy Malibu which had a six-cylinder engine, did 32mpg highway, and easily held five people. Both of my VW's had problems, and the Honda Civic had continual problems with the tire pressure sensors. My absolute favorite car was my 1987 Ford Thunderbird TurboCoupe, which was going strong until it was totaled thanks to an incident with black ice.

Stick by your statement all you want, the real-world data proves you wrong, and it's easy to find.

20. Ain't that the truth. If Oldsmobiles had cupholders, they'd still be in business today -
I'd take off my left shoe and put it on the passenger seat as my cupholder.

i buy mine used mostly but my jacket was purchased new in 1981 and is still going strong.
Quality stuff.
But yeah, no more new for me.

8. Hold on to those old ones because the quality is way down
I live in farm country and the farmers I eat with at the restaurant say the new Carhartt stuff falls apart. They used to get years out of a pair of jeans. Now they can't get a year out of them before they start falling apart.

They are really pissed about it too.

10. I rarely buy clothing in stores because it's 99.9% off shored.
I've taken to searching thrift shops and rummage sales for "new old" stuff that's "Made In the U.S.A." It's better quality at a better price.

15. We read the labels of everything we buy and with HUGE regret haven't been buying Carhartt for some
time. Their ads make me sick -- the fake paean to the American worker.

Try www.unionlabel.com for union-made clothes, including a closeout on union-made Carhartt.

You'll never see a farmer or rancher wearing anything else. It's a real shame they moved operations. Disappointing.

It is sad but true. They have some clothing left, and now's the time. I see you don't take pm's, they are having a half off sale, ask them for the code. Say you lost it or something. All clothing half off, some good shirts etc, not much, but Union Made. And half off. https://unionshop.aflcio.org
