Just Watched "Capitalism: A Love Story." for the first time (AWESOME)

I consider myself knowledgeable on issues. This blew me away. I hope everybody that has not yet watched this beacon of truth, will make an effort to watch it in the next week to ten days!

1. Last weekend MoveOn organized movie watch parties in my area.

We went to the next city over to watch with a couple perfect strangers.

Well, they were strangers, now their friends.

I thought it was a fabulous way to watch, but I recommend seeing it any way one can.

PS, I was really impressed by Carters comments about American values and consumerism so long ago.

3. Got the first day it hit the video store.

I hope he checks things out here at DU because I have a request. He's tackled virtually every major issue that haunts the healthy progress of a self governing society, save one. Education. The way the system works now is breaking for its failure to value teachers and future's society alike.

I know he said he'd not make another movie if the masses failed to motivate themselves to insist as a public justice be done and fairness be re-instilled, but I hope he'll reconsider and see this topic as fresh and necessary ground to lay clarity to.

Every Moore movie I have seen, and I think I've seen all but Roger and Me, have stirred and informed and been entertaining. I recommend them all.

You *are* aware there are over a million school-age children (not infants or toddlers, but school-age children!) who are homeless, right?

It's like having to fix the leak because efforts to prevent further damage may not be pointless, but ultimately ineffective until the original issue of the leak is repaired.

The economic affairs of the average American have been ruthlessly sliced, diced and thoroughly spliced by and for everything we do by a tentacled body of a money sucking super squid. It seems the PTB want the unrest of uncertainty that widespread poverty and destitution bring. The ruling elite have been allowed to rob the rest and everybody who counts helps them. The working model of the American expression is not operating as theoretically design, by failure to heed its overall intent. In short, things suck, and it ain't by accident.

I've recently lost a home in the battle myself. I am a renter again for the first time in 15 years and for all I know, I'm less from six weeks of being without walls and a roof for my thirteen year old.

Women's issues? After all, that is largely economic, so that can be put off until the economic is solved, right?

Health care really should have waited until the economic "affairs" are resolved, because it is definitely an economic issues.

Gay marriage? Gays in the military? That isn't hurting the economy, so bag it until we have the economy fixed.

Etc., etc., etc.

I have tried agreeing with you and have offered clarification as to what I feel are contributory factors for problems that face us all, but you seem to think it necessary to point out with adamant disdain that I fail to observe what you see as fit. I wonder from there how a simple request for a Moore film about education blossomed into a free for all of topics that I'm sure are being covered in other threads, p.m. if you want me to come and talk about your list in a more appropriate forum. I'm still kind of new here, so you'll have to let me know.

If you think I've done something to offend you, please say so instead of repeatedly trying to corner me into what you might view as a defensive position. I've lived my life with heart and honor and don't expect to convince anyone I've never met of that on a message board.

4. I saw it too the week it came on DVD

Excellent...and infuriating. Why the hell Americans aren't marching by the millions on Wall Street I'll never know. Are we just lazy, stupid, don't care, think "we'll be rich one day" or what? I sure as hell can't figure it out.

is pretty silent now.

The movie was excellent. I saw it in a red state, AZ. I was surprised at them number of people there on a weekday afternoon. And the audience reaction was wonderful. People were quiet on the way out ~

I don't know what is wrong with Americans. I think they don't expect much so they put up with abuse most other modern democracies will not. Such as our for-profit health care system.

7. I saw it in the theater

The part that stuck out for me the most was the privatized prison for juveniles. Teens being sold by a judge to a for profit prison. It's like something out of the 18th century.

9. When I Saw it in Theaters

That part hit me hard too. Seeing children be a pawn in a money making scheme, for crimes that ought not be crimes.
This movie left me sad and scared.

I think MM was saying that we all can do similar things as he has done. One person doesn't need to bear the load of taking on the evils that be. Imagine what things would be like if there were even a few Micheal Moores out there.

I watch Mike's flickat the theater a couple times each, and bring friends. And I feel so goood trying to counteract the corporate media domination.
Ed Schultz reported that they gave conservative show 94% of the time on air, even if they have the lower ratings.

13. It's a kick to the groin. Nothing we didn't already know, but packaged so well.

Unfortunately, since Michael Moore is on par with the Rosenbergs as far as America is concerned, only the "choir" will be preached to. What people don't seem to get about his movies is that it's not ABOUT "Right" or "Left" at all - these are issues that affect ALL of us.

I really don't think he should have titled his movie "Capitalism", because that invites the punditocracy's "Either/Or" bullshit when America's economic problems are far more complex. I think he should have used the word "Corporatism", because that's what America practices. "Capitalism" when regulated, policed, backed by a progressive tax structure and boring, can operate fairly and serve as a reliable growth engine. It's when it turns into a house-always-wins casino (that uses tax dollars to bail out it's failures) that it goes to crap.

15. Moore decries capitalism & lauds FDR. FDR didn't decry capitalism, he saved it.

This was the first Michael Moore movie I had a few problems with.

His approach could be called "passive-aggressive" even though he alludes to a GIANT ICEBERG under Marcy Kaptur's allegation that the October 2008 meltdown was "like an orchestrated, precision-timed intelligence operation"...

Instead, he lets that story slip away unexamined, ends both lauding FDR (Rescuer of Capitalism) while decrying FDR's ultimate goal.

Why not ask the audience to pressure Obama/Congress for a REINSTATEMENT of GLASS-STEAGALL?

I was impressed with it, and actually found it more "entertaining" than his other works.

When he was putting the CRIME SCENE tape around that building, I laughed out loud!

I checked it out through the library and LOVED the extras.
