Peace House in Crawford, TX needs help

Just got this email. This is incredibly sad. The Peace House is an amazingly wonderful place.

The Best investment I ever made

Seven years ago, I made a down payment on a house in Crawford Texas. On Easter Sunday 2003, it became the Crawford Texas Peace House.

We committed to being there until Bush was out of the White House, and we kept that commitment. Those years were important years for me and for the peace movement.

For a little over a year we have had a new administration and the
wars we set out to stop continue and have to spread to Pakistan and still threaten Iran. The relevance of Crawford's Western White House and our resistance has all become a significant part of history.

No, the mortgage did not get paid. I have not been able to meet my financial obligations on the Peace House, and I am five payments behind.

The Peace House is scheduled for a Foreclosure Auction
on Tuesday morning on the steps of McLennan County Court House, April 6,

There is an offer to purchase the house for 10,000.00 less than what is owed. My personal situation will not allow me to take the offer. It needs a new owner
48,000.00 is owed on the mortgage .4,000.00 will bring it current and cover legal fees.

13. How Surprising. There are several peace activists

who have been paying the mortgage for at least the past year. Up until December, when two payments were sent. One of those activists, a Waco doctor, has been involved with the Peace House since 2004 and has been communicating with Johnny about purchasing the house with the intention of creating a museum. He was trying to do a short sell to save money to put into setting up the museum.

This appeal was surprising to those very devoted people who have invested quite a large amount of money, including paying for a yard work crew just last week. Another of those activists has also contributed quite a lot of money and even installed a second bathroom in the house.

We all love and have supported Johnny over the years and were just really surprised to receive this mail. I was forwarded the appeal from a waco friend, I wasn't even included on the original list. I've been out of commission for the past year due to back surgery, with some complications. And frankly I'm feeling a little shocked about this.

It just does not make sense to alienate a group of dedicated people who have put so much of their time, money and love into preserving the memory of the wonderful people and events that took place in Crawford. These past seven years were an amazing demonstration of democracy in action and one very dedicated individual was willing to do what he could to preserve those events. Hopefully there will be a peaceful resolution of this situation.

The government uses our tax dollars to make homes for weapons to kill human beings. The need for citizens to invest in peace houses is apparent. I strongly urge DUers to support this.

It's an incredibly important place. We must do what we can to help.

I will send money. I wasn't able to go to Camp Casey when it was happening, but I helped clean up after them and it was a magical time. We sent all of the unopened food to Louisiana in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
