9. I understand he can change diapers with nothing more than the power of his mind...
and he doesn't even have to remove the child's clothing, nor does he need a clean diaper. The power of his will makes the soiled diaper new again.

21. Me neither, President Obama is really great with babies. Loved those
pics with him and little Obama in Iowa. During the primaries, some people were passing their babies above the crowd (crowd surfing) so that he could hold them ... and the babies were smiling. Babies know who like them and who do not, they are intuitive!

Very nice picture, thank you.

23. I think that, as a young father, he is comfortable with babies. . .so they are comfortable with him.
The "energy" is positive instead of being stressful or scary.

Babies are very sensitive to energy.

44. As you say. . .you adore kids. . . positive energy again!
But some people who love kids but feel akward around them (don't know how to pick them up, anxious about making them cry, or just in a hurry and thus "not into them" at that time) may have a different reaction!

Isn't it a gift, though,to make a child smile????

24. Um, what are you getting at here?
He is a father with two kids and he knows babies and children. A lot of people are not parents an don't know how to handle children. Are you conferring some special status because he does? I know a man with twins who are a year old and a very small baby who followed. He had a long learning curve with his twins learning to calm crying babies at night. He could probably handle a baby without making it cry too. Parenting is a special skill but it is not a skill which is unique to Obama.

So you are pointing this out because?

56. I think there are some people who get along better with babies.
My husband is one of those. Put him anyplace within a 100 yards of a baby and he'll be making that kid laugh within a short time. He was always able to do it with our daughter and still can with other people's kids. I can usually get a baby to smile, but not as quickly as my husband can. I don't think it says much about our politics or morality, (except maybe that we are parents, which can be a political statement in some cases, I guess...) but I do think maybe we are more comfortable with little kids than other people are.

Something I did notice about Obama a long time ago, however, is that in person he is a very likable guy. Seriously. I can't pinpoint why, exactly, but he's the only pol I've ever met who is THAT warm and THAT personable. I never had a sense he was working the room. I never felt he was making small talk. I felt like he was talking to ME and he was listening to ME. It is a very real gift that he has, and I expect that babies feel it too. That might account for some part of his success with kids--I dunno.

59. I'm SO GRATEFUL to have whatever it is.
For whatever reason, babies and small children think I'm cool. Toddlers often initiate the contact to the astonishment of their parents. It really makes my day-to-day travel fun. They're totally funny and JUST.SO.CUTE!!! I also very much enjoy being able to offer a stressed-out young parent a small respite.
