Sean Penn smeared by Maria Conchita Alonso

Sean Penn's costar in the 1988 cop drama "Colors" has written an impassioned open letter to the actor about recent remarks Penn made praising Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez.

Actor Maria Conchita Alonso penned the letter, titled "An Open Letter to Sean Penn," on the website Newsbusters. In it, she expresses her disappointment at Penn's statements made on the March 5 episode of HBO's "Real Time With Bill Maher." On the panel-based talk show, Penn praised the Venezuelan president, saying Chavez had been elected in "14 of the most transparent elections in the globe, and been elected democratically." Conchita Alonso, who was born in Cuba 52 years ago but raised in Venezuela, begs to differ.

"Dear Sean, WHY?" she begins. "Even though I have great respect for your artistic talent, I was appalled by a recent television interview where you vigorously showed support for the regime of Hugo Chavez. Therefore, I've decided to set the record straight for you regarding the Chavez regime, supporting my case based not only on my political ideologies, but on proven facts you choose to ignore. Otherwise, I believe your position would be different.

In a fervent yet respectful tone, Conchita Alonso goes on to lay out her case against Chavez, citing lack of free speech, disputed elections, international posturing, and escalating violence and poverty, among others, as issues facing Venezuela under and because of Chavez. "My intention isn't to convince you," Conchita Alonso writes, "but to let you know what is truly happening in this beautiful country of noble people, Venezuela. I would encourage you to investigate in depth the 'inside story' and realize for yourself the dark side behind the person you choose to idolize." "

I'm appalled that anyone would support McCain/Palin. She should be ashamed of herself, voting to destroy her new country.

4. Just like Venezuelans who oppose Chavez, you have to look

at their background. Like almost all of the Venezuelan oligarchs, she had to come from a family of means to be able to "escape" from Cuba to be raised in an atmosphere that offered more alternatives. Most of the wealthy in Venezuela are the descendants of Spanish imperial forces that grew to wealth on the backs of indigenous people.

Chavez represents the indigenous people trying to restore a balance of power. People with power and influence will not give it up unless under the fear of force. Chavez isn't so much trying so much to lower the ceiling as to raise the floor. Unfortunately, the oligarchs don't understand that it isn't a matter of taking all they own but just offering a livable income for those that were repressed for so long.

whose brother, Roberto Alonso, sheltered scores of Colombian paramilitaries who had infiltrated Venezuela to attack military targets and spark a coup de 'etat against President Hugo Chavez ??

Luckily the Venezuelan military detected and captured the Colombians at Roberto Alonso's farm near Caracas on Sunday, May 9, 2004.

And luckily for the Colombian thugs, the Venezuelan government did not execute them; instead they were deported back to Colombia.

25. This all boils down to the basic defination of Christian as defined by Paul vs. Jesus

Jesus defined being saved based on good works; whereas, Paul said belief alone would save you. So for many fundie Paul-following Christians, they believe that as long as they believe they can sit on their asses and they'll end up in heaven. But for true Christians, even those who might define themselves as atheists - it's all about the good works. Going out and helping others who need helping.

Ironically Jesus was prophesized in the old testament whereas Paul was one of hundreds of people who helped spread Christianity after Jesus's resurection and assention into heaven. There are no old testament prophesies about Paul. So why are these 'xtians' believing that their salvation is based simply on saying "I believe"?. There were hundreds of people that could have been selected for post-Jesus stories but Paul was selected. I say it's a bit scary for those that think Paul is their key to salvation.
