What if today's Republicans got to rewrite the inscription on the Statue of Liberty?
If you didn't learn it in grade school, here's the way it currently reads:

"Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Emma Lazarus (1849-1887)

So imagine for a moment that today's Republicans got to rewrite the inscription. I can only guess at what it might read;

"White European Christians with wealth to invest -- WELCOME. All others -- NO TRESPASSING."

I really don't know if it would be this crude. But if whatever they wrote was stripped down to its core meaning, my guess might be pretty accurate.

Or "Why don't you go back to Mexico where you belong?"

2. Lady Liberty, herself, would not be allowed in. She's FRENCH.
Problem solved.

5. ""White European Christians with wealth to invest-WELCOME." I'm not sure. They're still FOREIGNERS!
These rich Europeans (while white and Christian which would reassure republicans) might still take AMERICAN entrepreneurial opportunities. (Admittedly European investment here might create jobs here, but it might do at the expense of Americans making money on the same investment.)

For the non-white, non-Christian, non-wealthy, I think you have the message right. You might add in fine print after "NO TRESPASSING" - "republicans built a wall on our southern border to keep out folks like you. We can build one around Ellis Island and the Statue, too, if we have to."
