Just checked in a regular rural type Alabama person who's travelling for some type of business.
Some kind of transportation type co.. maybe for all the roads stimulus stuff.. Anyway, we were talking about the health care issue and he thought like most people who are sane and actually deal with the horrors of ins. and the rising costs... "I thought we should have gotten like Canada gets, the ins. co's are vultures and are ripping us off". I think this teabagger phenomenon was media made and in ernest their slanted, mis-informed views gave us mandated private insurance w/out the PO or a medicare buy-in or a single-payer system that most rational regular people think would be "fair". Remember that first.. What seems fair? Corporations are anything but. They aren't designed for "fair". Our govt is supposed to work to even that out; to protect us and to help us. The same people who supported Bush in the end are the same one's showing up now. They are the one's we don't listen to because they are the knuckle draggers. Had anybody in human history had listened to them, we'd all still live in caves.

2. When it comes to health care, its not really a party thing. Health care is
something people need. It is costly and the system is costly and confusing and terrifying if you need it for more than a check up. Its the reason so many people stay at a shitty job. Its the reason so many are with out it now.. priced out, recinded, or lost job (cobra unaffordable), or have a job that can't afford health care ins for its employees.... Its an over all American problem. Only a few actually used it as a divisive issue. The Public Option was sold big time during the campaign.. people liked it (many would have loved single-payer).

Every moderate and slightly right of center person I know was in favor of health care reform. They just don't like health insurance reform with mandates. Most of them favored either a non-profit public option to compete with the insurance companies or flat out supported single payer. It wasn't just liberals that wanted those things. It was liberals, moderates, conservatives and independents. The only people that didn't want those kinds of things are the compulsive centrists.

Edited to add: Even the far right wingers kinda liked the idea of single payer or public options once it was explained to them what they actually were.

6. We know this bill was written by the health industry lobbyists. Rational people every where
know the Canadian system is what we should aspire to. Saner experts like the doctors of PNHP weren't even allowed to present their case to Washington because there was no intent of pissing off the for profit industry. Maybe if we are vigilant we can over the years chip away at the for profits and try to expand the government programs in increments.

9. Rational people barely exist anymore. But people who understand
not being able to get sick when there is so much out there to get sick from.. and then dying because the access has been denied.. well that is basically murder.

7. The teabaggers are bat shit crazy nutcases. I've been saying that for awhile now.
I don't think they represent the majority of rethugs at all.

I'd bet money that the majority of people in this country-rethugs and dems-would be willing to pay for health care out of their taxes just like we pay for everything else.

It's just the bloodsucking insurance companies and the rest of corporate america along with the politicians corporate america owns lock, stock and barrel who think it's ok to rob the good people of this country blind. :grr:
