Conservatives are constantly telling us how the US was founded upon "Christian values". I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around exactly what "Christian values" they're referring to. It certainly can't be the part about helping the sick and poor. It definitely isn't the part about not judging other people, and it sure as hell isn't about treating each other the way they would like to be treated. In fact, it seems like they've completely tossed out all of Jesus' teachings, and reverted back to Old Testament stuff about vengeance, retribution, smiting sinners, judgment, etc. You know, all the stuff that Jesus specifically stated that his followers were supposed to be leaving behind.

1. Didn't you know that Jesus was against taxes?
And apparently voted Republican.

I know because Glen Beck and Bill O'Reily told me so.

2. Jesus was a socialist.
That's a problem for anti-socialists like Limbaugh, Beck and the rest of the haters that they attract.

3. I agree
I left the Christian faith, but I always enjoyed sudying about Jesus's teachings on forgiveness and love and mercy. I do think that a lot of Christians have abandoned the New Testament and embraced the Old Testament.

6. conservatives are all about "greed is good," christian values is for the stupid people
religion is a tool to be used to extract $ from people who are not intelligent enough to think for themselves, and conservatives don't feel it's a crime to extract $ from the weak, the stupid, and the helpless

they are not christian, they pose as christians as per machiavelli's advice that one should pretend to be christian but they do not believe in any god other than mammom

the type is described well enough in the book of matthew, from long before america was formed

10. The Christians here (and other liberal Christians)
... don't use their religion to manipulate people to vote against their self interest. There is a great deal of difference between liberal christians appealing to conscience and the right wing using religion to whip "the religiously insane" into a frenzy over issues such as abortion simply to get them to vote with them on other unrelated issues (often against their self interest).

that's how I interpreted the previous post ... maybe i'm wrong

12. I don't know - I'm not even one of that group

I just read this statement: "christian values is for the stupid people - religion is a tool to be used to extract $ from people who are not intelligent enough to think for themselves" and thought that if I WERE a member of that group, I MIGHT get offended. OTOH, I MIGHT get a chuckle out of the fact that the poster was trying to make a comment about intelligence and used bad grammar in the process.

Then again, maybe I'm just tired and cranky because I work for a guy that reminds me of Bill O'Reilly, and I'm feeling like a moral coward because I don't shit on his shoes every chance I get. Paychecks are more important, you know.

13. Oh, I am so sorry the guy you work for reminds you of O'Reilly
That really sucks.

It won't make you feel any better .... but, many of us are working for @ss-holes that, if not for the economy (and lack of job prospects), we would tell to "F" themselves .... but, we have mouths to feed, people to clothe and shelter ... Perhaps its not cowardice, but strength .... putting up with such a tool in order to survive/provide.

who knows what the other poster meant .... you know who you are and what you believe.

7. More like the Crusaders.
I have no idea what their definition of Christian values are. They're twisted that's for sure.

Real Christians do not behave this way.
