Glenn Beck likes to give history lessons. His desk is strewn with books. “Read history!” he’ll holler into the camera. He’s even got a blackboard and chalk.

I once had a high-school history teacher who was a bit like Beck. One minute he’d be writing on the board about Sutter’s Fort in 1849 and the next he’d mutter something about Charlie Chaplin, wheel around, chuck a piece of chalk across the room, and shout, “Gold Rush!”

Every time Beck gets going, I duck. He once did a show connecting the dots between Barack Obama and Karl Marx via Saul Alinsky. “Case closed!” he thundered. “Mao at the White House!”
