Poll question: Does this bill put the needs and interests of poor and working class families first?
Regardless of whether or not you believed this bill should be passed for whatever reason - a simple question:

Can you say that this bill prioritizes the needs of poor and working class individuals and families first, ahead of the wants and whims of insurance and the financial elite?

If Yes, how?
If No, why not?

2. Yes, I trust my own congressman and most of the others who voted for it, for the right reasons
Yes, politicization was and always is part of the process.

And yes, the bill is flawed, like all legislation, and is too kind to the industry.

But the good being done outweighs the favors to the industry and puts the needs of the poor ahead if even slightly.

3. Obama ad voice over in the primaries against Hillary in 08
"Hillary Clinton's attacking, but what's she not telling you about her health care plan? It forces everyone to buy insurance, even if you can't afford it, and you pay a penalty if you don't"

10. Has he ever explained his flip flop on that position?
He also said that to force people to buy something they cannot afford would 'require an enforcement mechanism and it would be wrong to force people to buy something they can't afford'.

He was against mandates and fines. So, what changed his mind? I agreed with Candidate Obama and still do. Nothing I've seen has changed my mind.

4. Both. Money for Insurers/Pharma and subsidies for the impoverished
Pretty standard

8. The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities called Senate Subsidy levels inadequate.
And strongly urged for the subsidy levels to be raised to at least house version standards before passage, warning of serious negative consequences for poor families otherwise.

So... what was prioritized over what, again?

11. It'll be interesting to see how states react to this
In my own state, over 100,000 people on a waiting list for a currently closed state healthcare program.

No bucks.

12. Poor and working class families aren't even second.
But it will make rich people richer and that's all that matters.

14. This bill was written by a former Wellpoint VP and is like the plan
written by AHIP in 2009. So no, not the interests of the poor or working class first.

16. Also, not one person who voted YES has had the guts to comment and defend that claim.

Please, by all means, tell my how the needs of poor and working class families were priority #1 in a bill that you also say "isn't great, but its better than nothing?"

You can't have it both ways.

EDIT - oh wait, maybe one did.. I've got an ignore in the replies.

18. The very fact that Medicare for ALL was taken off the table...
BEFORE the debates began, and that voices supporting Medicare for All were NOT allowed at the table, proves that the Primary Commitment of the Democratic Party Leadership was to protect the For Profit Health Insurance Industry.
