Woman beaten in NYC bar after rejecting advances

NEW YORK - A stranger followed a woman into a New York City bar restroom after she rejected his advances early Thursday, savagely beat her in a toilet stall and perhaps tried to sexually assault her, police said.

A police security camera near the bar's entrance captured images of the man afterward walking down the sidewalk and looking at his hand — an indication it might have been injured during the attack. The department released the footage on Thursday in hopes of identifying him.

The attack occurred around 2 a.m. at Social, a three-story bar and lounge on Eighth Avenue in midtown Manhattan where the 29-year-old victim, a nurse, had gone with a friend, authorities said.

The woman told police that she had rebuffed attempts by the man to dance with her, said police spokesman Paul Browne. When she went to the women's restroom on the second floor, he followed her and burst into a stall.

"Methinks" you ignore the "jokes" about rape, violence and misogyny in general, which effectively keep women's issues -- and women -- marginalized.

Most sensible folks stay out of rape threads altogether, as they harbor the ill attitudes that permeate the culture. When I said "this is the world women live in," it was not limited to DU.

i've seen the inevitable prison rape jokes, but i don't recall seeing folks around here joking around about sexual assault in general.
