The Plight of the Pretty Girl
The beautiful people earn more, what a surprise.

snip

While at lunch with friends, one of my future broadcast buddies brought up how being too beautiful might be detrimental for a woman. She cited Lara Logan, CBS Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent, who laments that her beauty has been somewhat of an obstacle in her career. In a 2005 New York Times article, Logan said, "being really attractive can hurt you." Had she not exhibited tenacity, fearlessness and compassion on her way up the news ladder, she would not be in the position she is today.

So do we feel sorry for poor, beautiful Lara? I don't think so.

2. As if these images can't be controlled
It is possible to de-emphasize ones appearance. If she felt it was a deteriment, she could have done things to manipulate her appearance.

4. Oh yeah?
Try being overweight.

Trust me, if poor, poor Lara had been carrying 20 extra pounds, she would have never even gotten through the door.

5. At least the pretty girls get a chance
Those of us who are merely ordinary looking or unattractive never even get the opportunities that the exceptionally pretty get.

Poor baby, she can cry me a river.

6. Pretty people rarely have to struggle in life.
A pretty girl can have the personality of a bore and the intelligence of a rock and she can still expect to marry fairly well and to be cared for. The truth is that humans do treat other humans differently based upon appearance. They judge worth by appearence. An ugly person must over come a great deal more to get the same recognition in most cases.

I would suggest that no "pretty girl" would ever choose to switch places with an ugly girl because her life is to difficult.

7. Oh please ....
I notice her "handicap" hasn't kept her from wearing a low cut dress. Or maybe she only wants her tits taken seriously, and not her face.

Ms. Logan is a 34-year-old South African who just 15 years ago was a hostess at the Water Club on the East River. Though her résumé includes tours as a producer at Reuters and a reporter at two big South African newspapers, she also had an after-school job, in both high school and college, as a swimsuit model.

So she used her looks to get ahead when SHE wanted, but now she claims, she's "Not taken seriously". :puke:

9. One of Seattle's female sports anchors
was asked to comment recently on the incident involving ESPN's Erin Andrews. She insisted that her looks had "nothing to do" with her job. Of course not. The woman in question got a job in the fourteenth largest market in the country with little to no previous experience.

The interviewer in question was male, and polite to her, but it was one of the unintentionally funnier interviews I've read in a long time.

10. I believe her, this far.
I'm sure that beauty can prevent one from being taken seriously in some circles.

But it's also how one gets on TV, and stays there. It's why Logan and her ilk can coast now.

11. Poor poor newsbabes
I'm going to shed a little tiny tear for newsbabes- NOT.
I used to love Candy Crowley on CNN because she broke that trend, then she turned out to be a corporatist cheerleader. effemall
