1. I hope it does help....
I haven't seen it, but heard a lot about it. The clip shown on the Oscars had me near tears... Truthfully, I am not sure I can watch it. But, I surely do hope it has the impact they hoped.

3.  Japanese distribution begins next month.
I believe that once millions of Japanese people see it the fishermen will be ordered to stop.

2. "The Cove" makes a REAL environmental statement
Unlike for example, that other film people elsewhere on DU are discussing.

5. Personally the most moving clip of the ceremonies
for me was the scene of the baby dolphin trying to swim away. It's one powerful film.

14. I first discovered dolphins as intellegent beings by reading John Lilly
We need to shut down the slave trade of dolphins as proformers and leave them in the oceans.

We need tostop whaling and the murder of dolphins.

I give monthly to Earth Island, and am learning Japanese. I want to go over there and work this issue. I see nothing more important than this.

15. Are you aware of the situation in Denmark?
Edited on Mon Mar-08-10 03:01 PM by Cetacea
The slaughters there are considered a rite of passage signaling manhood. However any one, including children are allowed to join in the fun and festivities. No one seems to know for sure if the particular island is under EU law.

22. I know what you mean.

But fortunately, they can cut away, but this is the world of the internet. The message is out there everywhere.

The above URL for example shows what you talk about on You Tube.

A big problem is that Japan has 126 million people and only 600 people there have seen The Cove so far. Those who saw it were shocked and dismayed that this slaughter was happening in their country.

We need educate them so they can stop their to stop their government from issuing 23,000 permits annually to slaughter dolphins.

Also Save Japan Dolphins and Earth Island Institute really really wants people to take very seriously the notion that if folks out there think there is any possibility that they might be able to come over to Taiji on September 1st this year to celebrate the beauty of Taiji and let the powers that be there know that the killing of dolphins shouldn't start again, any and all who can come are welcome to make the journey.

I can't think of a better excuse to use to visit that country.

23. Thank you.
It would be great if thousands of people from around the world, including residents of Japan showed up there in September.

I recall an idea being discussed about trying to convince those who run the town to make it into a tourist attraction, ala the historic former whaling towns of New England.

Let's hope that this is the last year of this nightmare.

16. Interesting
2010 Oscar Controversy
There was some controversy when "The Cove" won the 2010 Academy Award for Best Documentary. ABC cameras abruptly cut away to the crowd when dolphin trainer Ric O'Barry raised a banner stating "Text Dolphin to 44144" and did not cut back for several seconds.<52> TV Guide labeled the moment as "Fastest Cutaway,"<53> and film critic Sean Means wrote it showed that the Oscar ceremony was "studiously devoid of genuine excitement."

18. The Oscars have become devoid of any spontaneity
It wasn't that long ago that political moments were expected and even eagerly anticipated. Now it appears that flashing a contact number is considered risque'.

and tough to watch at times.
but, the story is something that resonates with everyone and that is you have a guy who feels he made a mistake early on in life. And since then, he has dedicated himself to righting the wrong he feels he caused.
Everyone should see this film.
Oh, and rent END OF THE LINE as well. Hard to believe, but we may see the end of fish as food within 30-40 years if we keep overfishing the ocean...
