Re-educate those you can; incarcerate those you can't; eliminate those who cannot be cured of their illness in prison.

1. No, one of the most ridiculous things I've seen posted on DU
And I'm an atheist.

This is exactly the sort of idiocy that gets the fundies all spun up about Obama persecuting the the liberal left coming to take their guns and bibles.

However I did once read (I can't remember where, maybe Bernard Lewis) that the reason Muslim fundamentalists railed against the US & the west and not as much against the communists (except in Afghanistan) is they were afraid of the Soviets more than the US due to human rights issues. Not sure if that is true or not.

But no. Let time solve this problem. For the last few generations, each generation is more secular than the last. Besides, persecuting people for their beliefs generally goes against humanist philosophy.

I think the US is about 40-50 years behind Europe. So in 50 years rates of secularism seen in places like France will be common in the US. No idea what France of Scandanavia will be like by then.

Let seeping secularism eat away at Christian fundamentalism. There is nothing wrong with being religious, but contemporary religion in the US is heavily populated by right wing authoritarians who are screwing up everything.

7. You mean, brainwash, imprison, and kill people?
Sorry, but no.

I'm against that kind of thing -- I'm a liberal.

11. I think there's very little to recommend the Soviet approach in anything.
Why emulate a failed, perverted version of communism?
