70% Of The Elderly Aren't Retiring Because They Can't Afford To Anymore
A new survey from Career Builder exposes what will be an increasingly common trend as America ages demographically -- older workers are being forced to keep working and postpone retirement for financial reasons.

CareerBuilder:

More than seven-in-ten (72 percent) workers over the age of 60 who said they are putting off their retirement are doing so because they can't afford to retire financially, according to a new survey by CareerBuilder.

The good news is that many older workers are putting off retirement for positive reasons as well.

About 70% of workers delaying retirement said they are doing so partly because they enjoy their jobs according to CareerBuilder. Hence there are many Americans who are, yes, putting off retirement for financial reasons, but at the same time are pretty happy to do so since they enjoy working

3. If you're over retirement age and fully vested in your retirement plan -
you should have to share that job with an unemployed person with appropriate education.

I know several post 65 yr olds who are fully vested and well fixed, financially, and who are working just because they feel insecure.

Hell, who doesn't? In my mind, they are hogging a good job that should be available to a young person. Good jobs with good pay and benefits are rare as hens' teeth - spread the wealth!

In some European countries the government makes up the difference in pay to the original employee just to give the second person the chance to work and get experience.

4. Then there's the opposite. Many seniors lost their jobs and are being forced into
social security before their full benefit age. I'm one of them... age 63.

Retirement money is some far away thing that rich folks have, like investments and savings.
