Jerry Brown to announce bid for governor Tuesday
California's attorney general, who was twice elected governor in the 1970s, is expected to officially launch his candidacy online.

Reporting from Sacramento - California Atty. Gen. Jerry Brown is expected to formally announce Tuesday morning that he is running for governor, a job he last held nearly three decades ago.

Brown, 71, an Oakland Democrat who faces no serious primary election opposition, is expected to make his announcement online. His aides said he would make a "major campaign announcement" at 11 a.m. via his website

Brown spent eight years as California's governor, from 1975 until 1983, but is eligible to hold the office again because today's two-term limit was not in effect when he first occupied the Capitol.

The enigmatic figure whose father, Pat Brown, also served two terms as governor, is seeking to regain the job near the end of a long political career.

1. Finally...a Democrat makes up his mind...and provides a counterweight to the nonstop Whitman ads
flooding California TVs. Thank you, Jerry Brown!

3. Out of 35 million Californians, this is the best we can come up with?
Some old guy who was already governor 40 years ago?

6. 'Fraid so
Newsome's still seen as a newcomer, Villaraigosa got himself involved in some scandals, Garamendi decided to go after a House seat, and no one else has much recognition statewide.

If Brown's the nominee I'll vote for him - anyone other than Whitman - but I haven't been thrilled with him of late, ever since he was mayor of Oakland.

13. People of his generation created the flawed system causing most of California's problems
We need someone who hasn't been leaching off state government for his entire adult life.

11. Are you kidding?
Jerry Brown isn't just "some old guy who used to be governor". In fact, he's currently one ass-kicking California Attorney General.

And personally, speaking as a geek, his campaign site is the best I've seen since Obama's:

4. A rewarmed NEPOTIST who has moved RIGHT-WING and won't support SINGLE PAYER? Puh-leeze, no!

Wonderful for California. Let me get out my checkbook.

Can't wait for the hagiographic fawning posts from his groupies.

I haven't followed him but hear good things from them.

12. I'm sure they looked into his eyes and saw his soul like Bush with Putin, right?
Politicians win people over, that's how they work.

Judge him not on the warm fuzzies he imparts upon his associates, judge him on his record. He has a record of moving rightward, of abandoning his support for single payer.

I'd love for the candidate to prove me wrong by coming out strongly for the Single Payer bill that has passed in California three times. He's mum on this issue.
