Please link POLLS showing Americans want single payer/public option
Edited on Sun Feb-28-10 04:52 PM by upi402
I keep hearing on the radio that if Health Care Reform included a public option or single payer, that a majority would support it. But the current tepid quasi-reform is not popular.
Does anyone have a link to this, if polls like this exist?

"A New York Times/CBS News poll released last week shows, yet again, that the majority of Americans support national health insurance.

The poll, which compares answers to the same questions from 30 years ago, finds that, “59% say the government should provide national health insurance, including 49% who say such insurance should cover all medical problems.”

Only 32% think that insurance should be left to private enterprise."

(not what I'm looking for, but agrees with what I hear on the radio a lot)

1. Polls pop up all the time and disappear as fast.
Here's an article on the Kaiser Foundation and Harvard Medical School recent polls on the matter.

2. Poll is from Kaiser Family Foundation. Would that be Kaiser Permanente medical insurance?

Not sure I know how impartial that is. Is it valid?
If that reflects America, maybe we really are that stupid and deserve what we're getting.

3. It is connected but it's actually pretty unbiased in research and studies.
I have gotten a lot of good information from them. Also keep in mind that Kaiser-Permanente health plans and hospitals are non-profit while the medical groups are for profit.

6. 60%-72% want Public Option - ALERT THE DEMOCRATS!
I don't think Debbie Wasserman Schults knew that while on Meet the Press. Only 51% of REPUBLICANS want a laissez-faire medical insurance system. I watch our Democrats and it seems like 51% of registered Democrats want the laissez-faire option.

13. TV Democrats seldom
stand up to challenge the misinformation even when it's right in their face. A bit of leadership on the part of the president would do wonders. No chance of that happening.

I never thought I would see this day. I can't express my disappointment in strong enough terms. Apparently there are millions that feel as I do. And not only about HCR and the PO.

7. I doubt the "American People" know what they want.
I'll bet most don't know what is in any of the bills, passed or not. That's why the polling is so volatile and, lately, negative. The leader (Obama) defines a direction. Then the GOP and naysayers "say nay," stampeding the people into flight mode. Most of the people don't know what they are running from or toward. They just have cold feet.

So to say that they are against any health plan is just ridiculous. They are simply blindly nervous about anything other than the status quo.

From just one wonderful link above.

"So to say that they are against any health plan is just ridiculous." Agreed. So why do our leaders forget this when on TV in front of us? Makes ya wonder what they're up to.

12. NPR poll tells me lack of support due to no public option/ single payer
National Public Radio Poll conducted by Public Opinion Strategies (R) and Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research (D). Jan. 20-21, 23, 2010. N=800 likely voters nationwide. MoE ± 3.5.

"Thinking now about health care: As you may have heard, President Obama has proposed a plan to change the health care system that recently passed in the House of Representatives and the Senate. From what you have heard about this plan, do you favor or oppose Obama's health care proposal?"

Favor Oppose Unsure
39% 55% 5%

1/20-21, 23/10

Great link, just what I was hoping for. Looks like the chickens are still listening to Colonel Sanders. They never worried about deficits for tax cuts for the rich during BushCo's war. Now they are?

15. They certainly
do not want a mandate with no public option. The American people feel abused by the insurance industry. They are ready in fight back. But they simply are not receiving the representation they voted for. Obama can pretend he doesn't know a majority want a PO but this is where his popularity has taken a big hit.
