So does the president's proposal have pre-existing conditions that take effect immediately
or is it the same b.s. that it will happen in 5 years?

1. I just found it, you have to wait until 2014 if you have a pre-existing condition
"Extend Consumer Protections against Health Insurer Practices. The Senate bill includes a “grandfather” policy that allows people who like their current coverage, to keep it. The President’s Proposal adds certain important consumer protections to these “grandfathered” plans. Within months of legislation being enacted, it requires plans to cover adult dependents up to age 26, prohibits rescissions, mandates that plans have a stronger appeals process, and requires State insurance authorities to conduct annual rate review, backed up by the oversight of the HHS Secretary. When the exchanges begin in 2014, the President’s Proposal adds new protections that prohibit all annual and lifetime limits, ban pre-existing condition exclusions, and prohibit discrimination in favor of highly compensated individuals. Beginning in 2018, the President’s Proposal requires “grandfathered” plans to cover proven preventive services with no cost sharing."

I am sorry but they really don't get it in my view

They have given up the public option
They will wait 4 years to cover pre-existing conditions

and by that time the composition of Congress could be anything, along with the administration. So if we lose one of the houses in 2010, and if we don't retain the WhiteHouse in 2012, then this whole mess they call HCR could end up as nothing

2. As long as he gets his little signing ceremony..
I guess it doesn't matter that we're being thrown to the wolves.

3. That is what it looks like to me. Smoke and mirrors. A lot can happen in four years
and effectively make this not even worth the paper it is written on

5. Same BS
It's about scoring the political victory at this point. Doesn't really matter what makes up that "victory". I think it's planned for no real changes to happen until President Obama has possibly won a second term. They don't want any failures from this to bite them before 2012.

They look like idiots though because this is going to piss their base off so bad 2010 and 2012 will probably result in a Democratic beat down at the polls due to their inaction.

6. It will piss their base off, and not just the so-called "left". The republicans are
just as out of touch with their base also, as was evidenced by ron paul winning that cpac straw poll

So nothing assures either side of victory

They really believe that people are idiots. Well they surprise us all and do a finesse? I doubt it
