Sebelius: Administration may fight for public option

The White House is willing to make a push for the public option if Senate Democrats decide to bring it up for a vote, Health and Human Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said tonight.

Eighteen Senators have signed a letter asking Harry Reid to push for the public option using reconciliation, which would allow Democrats to pass it with just 51 votes. (Republicans may be able to slow or halt the processing with procedural objections.)

Appearing on MSNBC tonight, Sebelius said the administration would back that decision.

"Certainly. If it's part of the decision of the Senate leadership to move forward, absolutely," she told Rachel Maddow.

Great job Rachel
Thank you!

2. Lucy and her football redux
That was such a powerful "YES the administration will fight for the PO" answer, wasn't it? :sarcasm:

I envision Obama and Harry having a private meeting, weighing the outcome of who takes the hit for dropping the public option AGAIN, after getting everyone excited about the possibility of it being resurrected.

3. What started as a ploy may become an opening for populist demand for the public option.
They originally intended for it to be a half-assed ploy to try to get the base a little less demoralized, and to use as a bargaining chip at the summit.

But this letter's taken on a life of its own.

18 senators have signed on, 3 more have expressed strong support, it's all over Olbermann & Maddow, the netroots grabbed onto it and made a huge campaign out of it to pressure our senators and congresscritters.

Yell loud enough, and what they intended to be a Lucy with the football style ploy may give us the public option in reality. If we yell loud enough, make it clear that their reelection is dependent on them delivering the public option, they'll have no choice but to push it through.

KEEP SCREAMING!!!
