PEOPLE! WATCH these clips! PLEASE! I'm begging you!
He is the ONLY candidate I've heard that is telling the TRUTH.
The man knows the history of all of it and explains it.

OH my GOD, do I dare hope that the Democrats actually
have a viable candidate now?
Perhaps not, given the "American Idol" brain set of
both parties...

While I welcome Gravel's voice to the debate, Dennis Kucinich has been a consistent voice for progress too. Personally, I am strongly opposed to his positions on the "fair tax" and on social security.

(On edit, it would help if I got Dennis' name right. I put "John" in the original post!!)

5. From his BIO- NIXON/WATERGATE etc...this man is a truth warrior for the people!
"In 1971, he waged a successful one-man filibuster for five months that forced the Nixon administration to cut a deal, effectively ending the draft in the United States. He is most prominently known for his release of the Pentagon Papers, the secret official study that revealed the lies and manipulations of successive U.S. administrations that misled the country into the Vietnam War. After the New York Times published portions of the leaked study, the Nixon administration moved to block any further publication of information and to punish any newspaper publisher who revealed the contents.

From the floor of the senate, Gravel (a junior senator at the time) insisted that his constituents had a right to know the truth behind the war and proceeded to read 4,100 pages of the 7,000 page document into the senate record. The Supreme Court ultimately ruled that Senator Gravel did not have the right and responsibility to share official documents with his constituents.

He then published The Senator Gravel Edition, The Pentagon Papers, Beacon Press (1971). This publication resulted in litigation, Gravel v. U.S., resulting in a landmark Supreme Court decision (No. 71-1017-1026) relative to the Speech and Debate Clause (Article 1, Section 6) of the United States Constitution."

WE MUST FIGHT TO KEPP HIS VOICE HEARD IN THE DEBATES!
The powers that be will do everything in their power to silence this man.

VOTE with your feet and check books people!
I say we lauch a MASSIVE grass roots compaign to make
our friends and neighbors aware of him.
Lord knows the MIC owned media will not
want them to learn of him.

45. I saw it on TV - post-debate interview. maybe someone puts it on line
Tweety: "So why do you think the other candidates keep the status quo"?
because they can get away with it - as long as you, the media reward them for it"
Tweety: That was harsh
Gravel: "you deserve it"
There were 2 more exchanges about getting a law through Senate (i.e criminalizing staying in Iraq) where Tweety tried to patronize Gravel and got smacked down. And another old story where Tweety implied that in '72 Gravel nominated himself as VP at the convention. "Once again, the media gets it wrong"
His tone was perfect too - firm, calm, authoritative.

He asks very tough questions that the other Democratic candidates will be forced to answer..I doubt he will ever be elected but he will spice up the race and seek out truth...The one that finally wins the nomination will have to do some "straight talking: of their own. Gravel will set a benchmark which all will be forced to meet.

29. For your consideration: Clark/Bush on madatory civilian service.
During his campaign, Clark touted a mandatory civilian service program
that looked great for a second, UNTIL you examined one clause more closely.
The clause would allow the President to call up the corp and deploy the corps
in the event of an emergency- no congressional oversight.

A few months ago- Bush repeated the very SAME proposal.

Sorry, as a thinking woman, I find the touting of the plan by BOTH
parties to be rather interesting.

So no, I am not a Clark fan.
Four star generals don't achieve that status in the MIC run
government by disagreeing with the military hegemony plan.

Food for thought, food for thought.
No offense intended in your choice of candidates, but to this
day, I remain HIGHLY suspicious of Clark.

In all the time he had a mic on Faux News, tell me when did
he actually address what MATTERS.

54. Clark touted a VOLUNTARY civilian service program
You got the "mandatory" wrong.

Democratic candidate Wesley Clark said Tuesday that if elected president, he would mobilize thousands of volunteers for a civilian reserve to respond to terror attacks and national disasters.

Clark said the reserve, much like the National Guard, could be called up by the president in times of national emergency. Every American 18 or older could register for a five-year tour and would serve as long as six months if called to duty.

"In the 21st century, we've learned that armies alone aren't enough," Clark said in a speech at Hunter College.

Those called to duty would receive health care, a stipend and the right to return to their jobs when their service had been completed. Clark, one of nine Democrats seeking the nomination, said the program would cost about $100-million a year and would be within the Department of Homeland Security.

-snip

In times of national emergency, such as floods, forest fires or terror attacks, the president could call to duty up to 5,000 civilian reservists, who would not carry weapons.

59. Once again, undergroundpanther, I agree w/ you TOTALLY!! Kucinich & Gravel ROCK the foundation
of the military industrial complex... which is a sinister, insidious, evil political/immoral structure that NEEDS to have its foundation rocked, like a level 10 earthquake, until it collapses.

The two candidates on that stage that I admired the most were Kucinich and Gravel. Statesmen who TRULY put their country above their financial interests. And they are being TOTALLY marginalized by the media.

I think I'm going to send them both the maximum donation allowed. And to those who think I'm throwing my money up a wild hog's ass, I only wish everyone else who LOVES what this country formerly stood for would do the same. These men are patriots of the highest order.

Did anyone hear Kucinich say on Bill Maher last night that marijuana needs to quit being illegal, and that all those minimum sentences laws need to be thrown out? He KNOWS that the new "privatized" prison system is getting obscenely rich over the destroyed lives of the prisoners who have been put there for little or nothing. (Holding marijuana, for instance.)

Gravel and Kucinich SHOULD NOT be silenced by the media and their snarky little condescending talking heads!!! Unfortunately, the only way they will ever hear any of us is if these candidates start getting LOTS of money into their campaigns....money being the ONLY language that this country now understands pays attention to.

:loveya: THANKS FOR THIS THREAD, BeHereNow!!! :applause:

Keep putting this front & center!

48. "prominently known for his release of the Pentagon Papers"
In 1971, he waged a successful one-man filibuster for five months that forced the Nixon administration to cut a deal, effectively ending the draft in the United States. He is most prominently known for his release of the Pentagon Papers, the secret official study that revealed the lies and manipulations of successive U.S. administrations that misled the country into the Vietnam War.

50. I'm with you BHN!
Gonna spread the word far and wide.

We MUST keep this guy in all the debates!

(btw- yesterday when I donated to Gravel's campaign,
the $100.00 registered twice. His campaign sent out an imed.
e-mail to me to alert me) How refreshing!

Thanked them and wished I could let them have it, but
promised more next month.

56. The message is there and I liked it, but he lacks charisma
and I am sorry to have to say this, but it takes someone with that extra something to win the election. That "x" factor, they have to be able to catch the attention and respect of the general public, the public has to feel that the candidate will be a good steward. His reading of his message reminded me of a professor reading his lecture notes.

I'll watch the rest and see if I see any energy. If he is serious, he needs to get a coach and he needs to memorize his speeches which would be easy to do since they are his own.

and learn how to express what he feels beyond writing a speech and reading it.

60. I understand, merh, but I hope there are enough patriotic Americans left to see beyond
the coiffed hairdo's, the glitz and the glamour, and that there will be enough donations to Gravel & Kucinich that it will start to send the message that needs to be sent to the powers that be.

I love their messages enough that I don't care if they've both got Tucker Carlson's lip herpes sores all over their faces, or if they have a speech impediment. Their message is clear, true, and vital if this country will ever again get back on the right path.

I think he made the more "charismatic" top three look like business as usual during the debates. And THAT is what this country needs to get away from.

63. Sadly there are not enough who see beyond the image.
That is obvious given the close election results, close enough that stealing some in certain areas gave them their monarch.

If image didn't matter, if what is projected wasn't a consideration wouldn't DennisK have a better shot at the job than what he is perceived to have?

If these politicians want to be taken seriously, they have to take the race and themselves seriously and get in touch with what the public wants and needs.

Our dems have done a poor job of reminded this administration and the MSM of the obvious. They were given the power in Congress because folks want a change and don't want to be in war. Every time this admin says "veto" they need to remind the president that he, like them, work for the people and it isn't about what he wants or what his generals want, it is about what the people want. Just because the admin wants to be the world bully doesn't mean that is what the citizens want and they work for us.

And the dems have to get smart, give them their funding but write the legislation to include tax increases that go directly to the war funding and no where else. Write legislation that provides for a nationwide vote on a nonbinding referendum on the taxes and the war. Popular vote on paper ballots. No deadline to hand count the ballots, just that the ballots are hand counted. Put it to the people once and for all and stop the politics and the manipulation.

Of course, I am now just posting wishful thinking.

The image that the politicians project is what the people react to and support. Not everyone is a political junky like you and me. They are just now learning that the admin warped the intelligence and ignored the facts. How long have you known that?

65. Everything you say is absolutely true. And I know that Gravel & Kucinich
don't have an ice cube's chance in hell to be the Dem nominee. In fact, those who own the vote counting machines are the ONLY ones who will determine who the Dem candidate is in the end....not the people who vote in the primaries.

That said, I think that if there is a big grass-roots effort to fund the Kucinich and Gravel campaigns, if for no other reason than to put them more into the forefront during the primaries, then there has been a greater purpose served.

Obama & Hillary & Edwards are getting the big money from the big donors. Kucinich and Gravel will NEVER get those sources over to their side. But I would really like to see the message sent from the grass-roots that we hear what Kucinich and Gravel stand for, and "we approve this message", if you know what I mean.

Once the primary is over, we can work for whoever Diebold & ES&S & Triad hand us as the candidate, and make sure enough of us turn out to vote that it helps screw up karl rove's plans for which elections to steal.

It's a truly sad state of affairs, and a complex, complicated one we are dealing with.

70. Don't tell me about Eisenhower...
Eisenhower let Joe McCarthy ruin hundreds of people's lives until the pre-neocon idiot got around to picking on Eisenhower's army buddies. So what did Ike DO while he was president to reign in the military-industrial complex beyond making a speech when he no longer had any power? Don't tell me about Eisenhower. Adlai Stevenson would have made a much better president.

67. While all other candidates are careful to not upset 'The Powers That Be'
Gravel says exactly what the American People need to hear and need to know. Therefore, 'The Powers That Be' will never allow such an individual, such as Gravel, to incite the American People into reclaiming their country.

This country has been turned into a marketing racket and a fraud against the American People, to benefit the privileged few.

73. I've lived in VAT countries, and it SUCKS. It really is a tax that weighs on the
poor heaviest, as the middle class as well.

Unless taxes are progressive, they just grind down the least of our brethren.

82. The problem is that many folks are really not thinking this
through.

Something like Canada has is workable since it is actually progressive

Their VAT literally changes in percentage by goods (And they still have national taxes anyway)

But if you are buying basic goods needed for survival, no bs about a federal program to calculate how much you spend... rather they are lightly taxed (Mexico simply doesn't tax those goods, including medicines). Now if this is a luxury good, prepare to pay trough the nose... but hey, it is you who wanted that boat, right? And boats are NOT everyday needed goods.

Of course Cnnucks get a lot from their service fees... but that is a mixture I'd be willing to give the time of day. HIS program, as it stands right now, no thank you
