Obama Rebukes Boehner In Testy Exchange, Charges GOP Wants To Kill All His Initiatives

At the private White House meeting today between Obama and Congressional leaders, the President and John Boehner got into a testy exchange, aides say, with Obama charging that the GOP is just out to kill all his initiatives.

According to aides familiar with the discussion, Boehner made the case that long-term concern over Dem policies — health care, cap and trade — was leading to uncertainty in the private sector, damaging job creation efforts. Boehner said the only way to get the economy moving again is to put these issues behind us.

That apparently irked the President, aides say, who accused Boehner of just wanting to kill all his initiatives. Boehner shot back that this was false, that Republicans are serious about bipartisan cooperation.

That prompted the President to push back again, aides say, arguing that the White House isn’t getting enough credit for the part of the stimulus that boosts federal funding for state Medicaid programs, arguing it has had a positive effect on the economy.

22. I guess I shouldn't have used the 'B' word, but my point still stands

It's silly to call Boehner out of his depth around Obama when Obama hasn't scored a single victory over Boehner. Objectively, Obama is out of his depth in the presence of Boehner.

The truth hurts... at least for me it does. But I'm not going lie to myself about it.

2. The Republicans and their supporters should give up trying to best Obama.
He's too smart for them. He cuts through their bullshit, and they don't have any good answers to come back at him with, because they have nothing new to offer. Same old stuff that brought us to this point in the first place. It won't work any better next time.

The GOP truly is out of their league with Obama.

3. This enrages me!
He has to say it to them again: "I WON." Did the electorate not know what they were voting for in his overwhelming Presidential win? The public does INDEED support his agenda. The Repubs are lying AGAIN and getting away with it.

Does anyone think the tide is turning? Gawd, I hope so...

9. he can chide, debate & shame them
all he wants, but until somebody decides to fucking force the change we need through the Senate with reconciliation this government is at a stand still. We're still talking about HCR. We should be past the second stimulus (jobs bill) & Cap & Trade. I'm ready for a fucking fighter. If the dems are going to go down in the mid-terms I would rather it be because of the legislation they passed instead of the lack of legislation. Most of the American people don't know what is good for them until you hit them over the head with it (i.e. medicare & social securtiy, etc.)

13. Damn it Mr. President, we need to go back to tried and true Republican economic policies
You know, the ones that led to a nearly total collapse of our economy? Yeah, the ones that sound awesome: No taxes, no regulation, unlimited military spending (for the troops, of course). Come on, who cares if they will ruin the country. They still sound awesome, you have to admit.

They don't care. They don't WANT things to get done.

Boehner just wants to kill everything Obama proposes--the President was spot on.

15. This scares me
That piece of news tells me that the Repukes have won--they have rattled him and knows he will never get any legislation passed. Instead of punching a Repuke, doesn't he call in a number of our Dems and hit them over the head with a two by four!

Uh, Mr. President these guys are not friends. They do not like you or anyone but themselves. Of course they want to kill your initiatives. Shame you didn't think of this sooner.

19. What the hell is this "testy exchange" shit?
Remember when Darth Cheney told Sen. Leahy to "go fuck himself"? Sure as hell got away with it, didn't he. I sure wish Obama would have told Boner the very same thing. I'll bet Boner and Cantor are really worried about Obamas' rebukes. This is such bullshit Kabuki theater. Imagine, "rebuking" Boner. Wow, some threat from the most powerful man in the world.

21. Well, that would be refreshing
What happened to the good old pre-Civil War days when you could go on to the floor of the House or Senate and beat one of the sons-of-bitches to a pulp. I'll gladly supply the "cane".

23. LOL!
A "testy" exchange?

Gee, I was hoping for a little more than a testy exchange. I weep for America if the best that we can do in regard to effecting real change in this country is a "testy" exchange. How about a little hardball, smashmouth, Chicago style politicking.

It is really not that complicated. Democratic leaders must re-introduce the stick into our national politics. It seems Obama and other Dem leaders are fixated on offering carrot after carrot in the hopes that the people that have already declared they want Democrats to fail will change their minds.
