Are the DLC the modern-day "Bourbon Democrats"?
Edited on Sun Feb-07-10 08:27 PM by Ardent15
"Bourbon Democrats represented business interests, supported banking and railroad goals (but opposed subsidizing banks, railroads or other enterprises - or protecting them from competition), promoted laissez-faire capitalism (which included opposition to the protectionism Republicans then advocated), opposed imperialism and U.S. overseas expansion, fought for the gold standard, and opposed bimetallism. "

Now, some of this doesn't really apply to today (the bimetallism and gold standard bits), but my question is: is it really surprising that there are a lot of corporatist, free-trade Dems, since we had them 100 years ago?

1. Good analogy
although Blue Dogs like Joe LIEberman and Evan Bayh are all for imperialism and overseas expansion.

2. Yep.
And also equivalent to Al Smith and the Roscoe gang that hated FDR.
