Need another reason to root for the Saints Sunday?
Heckuva Team, Brownie! Michael Brown Picks Indianapolis -- Not New Orleans -- To Win Super Bowl
Jillian Rayfield | February 5, 2010, 3:05PM

As if New Orleans didn't have enough reasons to be angry with him, ex-FEMA chief Michael Brown said that his pick to win the Superbowl is the Indianapolis Colts -- not the New Orleans Saints.

In an interview for Politico Podcast, Brown was asked about his pick. He said: "I just tend to follow them more and I've just never been a real Saints fan. It's nothing more than that."

He also commented on his now-infamous "Brownie" nickname, which then-President George W. Bush gave to him: "The president wasn't exactly, let's say, a genius when it comes to nicknames."

3. Not sure why you think it's such a foregone conclusion
Manning may be better than Brees, but not by much

The Saints have a better running game (certainly deeper)

Reggie Wayne is better than what the Saints have. But, the Saints have a better corps of WR

Colts are better at TE

Saints are better on D

Intangible that favors the Colts - 1 previous trip to the SB

6. Saints D forces a lot of turnovers but they're not better
Edited on Sat Feb-06-10 12:09 AM by JonLP24
Indianapolis pass D is #3 in the NFL at 6.2 YPPA. Saints are #17 at 6.9 YPPA. Run defense Colts are #19 while Saints are #26. Indianapolis is #8 in PA while New Orleans is #20. Total D Colts is #18, Saints is #25.

However if everyone keeps saying Saints don't have a shot or no way they can win they could build off that.

On edit:
Corp at receiving is certainly debatable as well, Wayne, Garcon, and Collie all had excellent numbers and their last year #2 Anthony Gonzales was injured most of the time but they certainly made everyone forget that he was.

9. Colts have also laid some eggs in big games
Edited on Sat Feb-06-10 12:19 AM by SoxFan
New England and San Diego come to mind. The Colts have trouble when they face an offense that can match them in the flying circus department. A New England team that clearly had issues almost knocked them off earlier this year, and they are very similar to the Saints in a lot of ways.

11. Except for the fact Indy didn't play San Diego this year
they played Denver out of the AFC West this year. Also you bring up the NE game but New Orleans won a few close ones such as the Rams and Redskins. They also lost some games down the stretch.

13. Brees handles pocket pressure better than Manning...
...Peyton doesn't have quite the general athleticism of Drew. If the rush is hot and heavy, Drew is better on the fly.

8. Stop watching the ESPN ballwashers and think about this
New Orleans has better depth at receiver (and that's not even counting the fact that Bush, Thomas, and Bell can all catch the short passes out of the backfield); the Saints have a better secondary and linebacking corps; and they have been battle-tested against two high-powered offenses in Arizona and Minnesota.

The Colts? They beat two teams with anemic, "one yard and a cloud of dust" offensive attacks. When they played New England, a team that is very similar to the Saints in terms of personnel and offensive game planning, they were fortunate to squeak it out on a very iffy spot in the last minute of the game.

Saints win by a touchdown.

12. Don't buy the hype
The Saints are for real and are more balanced than the Colts. Also I have to tell you this team knows who they are playing for, it is more than just a football game, they know they are a symbol for the entire region of Katrina. They know that we (yes I am a Saints fan and Katrina survivor) consider them as a symbol of ourselves, that like the Saints, we have been down a good while but we are coming back and fighting as hard as we can to get to be better than ever before. They see the way they have given life to our entire area, and know win or lose we will hold them up as our symbol of hope and our goals.

7. I can't begin to undestand why anyone
would care what any public figure thinks about something like the Superbowl. So Brownie has an opinion about who he'd like to win. BFD.

14. I never pay much attention to sports but.....
After watching Rachel Maddow 's show yesterday and her rundown of the history of The Saints.
Combined by seeing the absolute joy in the crowds faces in New Orleans I am now officially a Saints fan!!!!!!! LOL!

Though I still will be watching The Puppy Bowl I will also be rooting for the Saints to win.
First time I ever had a football team I cared about.

15. wow, real earth shattering news here.
What do people want from this patsy. I think its fine that he's rooting for the team he "tend to follow". why the hell should he root for New Orleans?

A profoundly unqualified guy was one of hundreds of "place marker" appointments; the guy couldn't handle the FEMA job, was made a further laughing stock through his incompetence and patsy by his bosses during and after his tenure. Why should he root for something as insignificant as a football team and why should it matter to me?

At least he made a spot on comment about the moron repsonsible for putting him in the job: He also commented on his now-infamous "Brownie" nickname, which then-President George W. Bush gave to him: "The president wasn't exactly, let's say, a genius when it comes to nicknames." no shit, Sherlock.
