Emily's List Biggie Deserting Hillary for Obama

Barack Obama got a big steal from Hillary and emily's list for his campaign today.

There was no more effusive praise for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton in the immediacy of her campaign launch earlier this month than from Ellen Malcolm. Endorsing Clinton, Malcolm, the head of EMILY's List, observed that "what is so exciting about this is that she will appeal to a whole new generation of women who will become political and get involved because of her."

One of this generation's political women, though, has decided to support one of Clinton's top challengers for the Democratic nomination. And she's somebody who Malcolm knows well.

A well-connected Democrat tells the Politico that Eureka Gilkey is set to become Dep. Political Director in Sen. Barack Obama's campaign. Gilkey, an African-American, is currently the National Training Director for EMILY's List, where she tutors activists and operatives on the intricacies of campaign work. In the '04 cycle, she worked for NARAL and in '02 for the AFL-CIO.

She enters a still-developing Obama team that, unlike HRC's camp, leans heavily toward men.
