republician policies "comming home to roost"
Edited on Mon Feb-01-10 02:31 PM by Froward69
First for those unfamiliar with Colorado... Colorado Springs is a GOP bastion. (fully two thirds registered republican.) it is also the birthplace of TABOR (Taxpayers Bill Of Rights.) TABOR forces the state to ask the populace for tax increases and requires all of tax revenue to be held at current levels (20 years ago) Then ratcheted down no matter what the economy does. Additionally ANY surpluses must be returned to taxpayers.

Colorado Springs is becoming a third world community.

first the Post...
http://www.denverpost.com/newsheadlines/ci_14303473
More than a third of the streetlights in Colorado Springs will go dark Monday. The police helicopters are for sale on the Internet. The city is dumping firefighting jobs, a vice team, burglary investigators, beat cops - dozens of police and fire positions will go unfilled.

The parks department removed trash cans last week, replacing them with signs urging users to pack out their own litter.

Neighbors are encouraged to bring their own lawn mowers to local green spaces, because parks workers will mow them only once every two weeks. If that.

Water cutbacks mean most parks will be dead, brown turf by July; the flower and fertilizer budget is zero.

City recreation centers, indoor and outdoor pools, and a handful of museums will close for good March 31 unless they find private funding to stay open. Buses no longer run on evenings and weekends. The city won't pay for any street paving...

Then the take from Coloradopols

Finally complete republican denial.

Fact is republicans version of society... Makes for a third world community...

On Edit/ the closest thing in the springs Paper to what is actually happening around them.

6. Now we need a fire
at the Focus on the Family headquarters. No water and no firefighters would make for a nice little pile of rubble at that POS compound.

7. I merely day dreamed such an episode...
The astonishing thing is they are using the Fire Department response time in Boulder BOULDER (15min longer and mountainous w/ much higher growth) as rationale to cut their own Fire Department in the springs.

11. See the post about them blaming it on Obama
how downright ignorant and stupid can you get. Why is it the federal government's fault because they don't pay taxes in Colorado Springs. If you need a new coat, you go into the store and buy one or put it on your charge card. Now why are you not suppose to pay for services you receive thru a city....

Yes, you fucking moron. Police, fire, city parks, street maintenance, etc. Those are called government jobs.

10. Reading through some of the comments...
I am dumbfounded, headshakingly dumbfounded (even though I probably shouldn't be). They think the reason for this is there haven't haven't been enough tax cuts, and the answer is to cut services to match the tax cuts.

The stupidity of some Americans is disheartening.
