in 2007 racism alive & well!
Alleged racial slurs, graffiti offensive to neighbors

COLLIER COUNTY: Neighbors say a Collier County man has spray painted racist graffiti on his own house and has started a petition to get African Americans banned from his street. They say it is all in an effort to keep an interracial couple from moving in next door.

Shannon Taylor says last week, her would-be neighbor wrote "No N-word allowed" in bright orange chalk on the side of his house facing hers.

She says the racial insult was directed at both her and her African American fiancé.

"It was painted on the wall a little higher than eye level in between these two windows just above the two AC units," said Taylor. "My house was packed, ready to move, all my plans have been changed because of his racism."

All I can say is, I'm speechless.

1. Stupid shit like this will be with us for a long, long time.
We as a species will probably do ourselves in long before we all come together for everyone's benefit. Hopefully the next form of "intelligent" life that evolves will do better.

2. Hate it when the *ssh*l*s win
though I can't blame Ms. Taylor for not wanting to move next door to him.

So he painted "in chalk".... and is petitioning - hopefully he was greeted with some derision and hostility while trying to get signatures.

3. Ah racism. It will never go away. This proves what I read in an essay
posted here a few days ago: when people use derogatory racial slurs, it's not the word itself that is harmful, it is the history and all that is associated with that word that the user hopes to bring into play when trying to intimidate others.

The N-word is loaded. It is not "just a word".

4. Anyone who thinks that it isn't
alive and well is fooling themselves. As much as I hate to admit it, racism is thriving in my own family. I continue to fight against the hate, but I have to say that it seems to be more prevalant in the older generations. That is not to say that they aren't continuing to pass down their bullshit to their sons and daughters, but I really believe that the younger generations are much more aware and are resisting the hate. I have hope!

5. I wish she and her fiancee would stay.
The racist is winning.
