Newt Gingrich Writes New 'Contract,' Calls Dems 'Secular Socialist Coalition'

http://www.politicsdaily.com/2010/01/25/newt-gingrich-w... /

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich led Republicans' 1994 take-over of the House of Representatives with the "Contract with America," a document telling voters what a Republican-led Congress would look like under his leadership.

On the same day that PD's Matt Lewis drafted his own proposal for a Contract with America 2.0, Gingrich has outlined an updated contract for Newsmax Magazine, along with instructions for today's Republican leadership, titled "How I'd Create a New Contract with America."

Before he gets to the meat of his proposal, however, Gingrich notes, "It is clear that the country is increasingly angry with the Obama-Pelosi-Reid team. But it is equally clear that Americans still distrust Republicans almost as much as they fear liberal Democrats."

This document, he says, can help energize Republicans, who should focus on the country, rather than fixating on Democrats, whom he refers to as a "secular socialist coalition seeking to change America radically." Gingrich then gives the history of the first contract, as well as a lengthy how-to guide for Republicans to use his new one.

Finally, Gingrich outlines an extensive list of priorities he'd like to see Republicans tackle:

1. Jobs, jobs, jobs.
2. Balance the budget.
3. An American energy plan.
4. Appropriations reform.
5. Litigation reform.
6. Real health reform.
7. Every child gets ahead.
8. Protect religious liberty.
9. Protect Americans, not the rights of terrorists.
10. Defending America is job one for government.

Although House Minority Leader John Boehner and Republican Whip Eric Cantor have said for months that they will unveil a similar Republican agenda, they have yet to do so. But they will have plenty of time to discuss Gingrich's and Lewis's ideas at the Republican issues conference, set for Baltimore later this week.

1. Jobs, jobs, jobs.the GOP loses jobs, remember W? You don't have the experience or savvy to actually create jobs...
2. Balance the budget.Hahaha!!! Sure thing, just like you balanced it under 12 years of GOP rule (1994-2006)
3. An American energy plan.WTF? Since when, Newt? You better talk to the oil corporationstheyre people now.
4. Appropriations reform. WTF? So the red states who get more back from the feds than they pay in federal taxes, will have to pull their own weight?
5. Litigation reform.i.e., emasculate trial lawyers so your corporate buddies can continue to rape and pillage? Sure thing, Newt!
6. Real health reform. You had the White House, both houses of Congress, the Supreme Court and most of the media from 2000 to 2006 and did nothing about this. Why now?
7. Every child gets ahead.Hahaha!!! Care to explain what "gets ahead" means to you?
8. Protect religious liberty.Oh, yeah, like the religiously insane are soooo put upon.
9. Protect Americans, not the rights of terrorists. How about American terrorists, Newt? Like the "teabaggers" and their not-so-veiled threats to allow them to win or they start shooting?
10. Defending America is job one for government.Tell it you your pal, George W, who sat and did nothing when told 3,000 Americans were being murdered by his pals and business partners.

 Fuck off, Newt!!!

18. minor quibble...
We did have a balanced budget (surplus) at the end of Clinton's term. Of course, Newt stepped down in 1998, so I don't think he or his henchmen can take too much credit.

10. The party of the 1st part shall be known in this contract as the party of the 1st part
He's a fat, ethically-challenged, attention-seeking, porcine hypocrite, an adulterer, a liar, and was booted out of Congress because even THEY couldn't put up with his crap. That's really low!

He lost Jesus, found Jesus, relocated to a new Jesus...he doesn't stop slithering around long enough to nail him down on the "meat" of anything. I remember sane, intelligent, conservative GOP candidates in decades past - aren't there any left at ALL?

11. I wonder if Gingrich's contract includes serving your wife with divorce papers
as she lays in a hospital bed fighting cancer? Or maybe it includes your church having to pay your aforementioned cancer-stricken wife's electric bills because you abandoned her as she lay gravely ill in a hospital bed to take up with your secretary?

In April of 1980, the candidate who had promised to "keep his family together" told his wife he was filing for divorce. According to sources in whom Gingrich confided at the time, he was already having an affair with the woman he later married.
...
To make matters worse, Jackie had undergone surgery for cancer of the uterus during the 1978 campaign, a fact Gingrich was not loath to use in conversations or speeches that year. After the separation in 1980, she had to be operated on again, to remove another tumor While she was still in the hospital, according to Howell, "Newt came up there with his yellow legal pad, and he had a list of things on how the divorce was going to be handled. He wanted her to sign it. She was still recovering from surgery, still sort of out of it, and he comes in with a yellow sheet of paper, handwritten, and wants her to sign it.
...
People in Carrollton were particularly incensed by the fact that Jackie was left in difficult financial straits during the separation, after her surgery. According to Lee Howell, friends in her congregation had to raise money to help her and the children make ends meet, and Jackie finally had to go to court for adequate support, before the divorce decree. In his financial statement, Gingrich reported providing only $400 a month, plus $40 in allowances for his daughters. He claimed not to be able to afford any more. But in citing his own expenses, Gingrich listed $400 just for "Food/dry cleaning, etc."--for one person. The judge quickly ordered him to provide considerably more. When an article on the hearing appeared in the local paper, many in town were incensed. On election day, a few weeks later, Gingrich's winning margin in Carroll County fell from 66 percent in 1978 to 51 percent.

In part because of the divorce, in part because of the way he dealt with others, Gingrich has left behind him a string of disillusioned friends and associates, many of whom are now willing to air their feelings. Listen, for instance, to Lee Howell, who is still friendly with Gingrich: "Newt Gingrich has a tendency to chew people up and spit them out. He uses you for all it's worth, and when he doesn't need you anymore he throws you away. Very candidly, I don't think that Newt Gingrich has many principles, except for what's best for him, guiding him."
...
"The important thing you have to understand about Newt Gingrich is that he is amoral," says Carter. "There isn't any right or wrong, there isn't any conservative or liberal. There's only what will work best for Newt Gingrich.

13. Some real weasely language there
Let's see if we can do a little translating:

1. Jobs, jobs, jobs = tax cuts for corporations.

2. Balance the budget = kill Social Security and Medicare.

3. An American energy plan = Drill, baby, drill!

5. Litigation reform = tort reform, i.e., caps on damages against large corporations and no class action lawsuits.

8. Protect religious liberty = allow fundies to hate gays and deny morning-after contraception to rape victims.

9. Protect Americans, not the rights of terrorists = trash the bill of rights.
