Things that make you go HMMMMMMMM
Facebook has been perplexing me on several levels, and with increased frequency as of late. I notice that they let not one, but TWO racist hate fan pages ("Fuck the Haiti Earthquake Victims") stay up for days and days, yet a spoof of Ronald Reagan from The Onion is yanked in record time. That's right, you cannot post it or send it as a link even in a personal message.

Is Facebook merely responding in degree of complaints received, or exposing a political stripe?

Does Facebook consider poking fun of the late Ronald Reagan to be much worse of a violation of their terms of service, than two blatantly racist fan pages?

Things that make me go "HMMMMMMMM"......

2. Thanks. I wasn't even able to send it as a message.
It came up with a warning that said that link was considered "blocked content" on Facebook.

It was sent to me via email from a friend on FB who said she couldn't post it.

4. I have to admit that I have no idea how Facebook or any of them work,
but I have a friend in Chicago who, after Obama was elected, posted on Craigslist that she had copies of the Chicago Tribune that announced the victory and that she wanted to give them away to servicemembers, preferably. It got so many complaints that it was pulled twice within 15 minutes and she said she got tons of hate mail. So if it is the same and they get however many complaints, something gets yanked.

5. Or somebody
who knows the rules as a matter of influence over the media is focused on this kind of particular oversight- and no one else is. We used to expect rapid response from civil rights groups etc. and they were very upfront- in the traditional places. The other side works a lot more steadfastly in the shadows of the new media threats to their PR.

Or Facebook is prejudicially stoogy as so many other providers have gone over the years for all sorts of motives.

6. I don't trust facebook.
News came out yesterday that banks, etc are using it to determine a pigeon's... uh, a customer's creditworthiness. What's to stop insurance co's or who knows who from checking up on "lifestyle" issues, etc., based on your giving up highly personal info that Facebook "promises" is private? I got the hell out of there but i know they kept my data.

Also, I wonder if/when insurance companies will grade us based on our "member savings" and credit card grocery purchases; red meat = risk? Cheese? Beer?

Note that It's not paranoia if they really are after you.
