House rejects impeachment resolution

MONTPELIER, Vt. --Hundreds of people swarmed the Statehouse to lobby lawmakers on Wednesday as the House opened debate -- and ultimately rejected -- a nonbinding resolution about whether Congress should initiate impeachment proceedings against President Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.

Lawmakers voted 87-60 against the resolution, following the lead of House Speaker Gaye Symington, who said she opposed the Bush administration but believed impeachment would be an unnecessary distraction.

"I believe in accountability," said Rep. Darryl Pillsbury, I-Brattleboro, a leading advocate of the resolution. "I believe this president should be impeached."

Opponents of the resolution, which included Republicans and Democrats, said the brief resolution did not make the case for indicting the president and vice president.

I am writing this in response to the latest headlines about the VT reps. call for impeachment.
Regarding the latest ridiculous vote by the Vermont senators, calling for an impeachment of Bush and Cheney....are they kidding?
I moved away from Vermont many years ago and it never ceases to amaze me how such a beautiful State can have such ugly, mean-spirited representatives. They are like children, wanting to do what is easiest and what “feels” good, without any thought to the consequences. Bush is the adult, doing the tough work while STILL cleaning up the mess left by the last “child” in the White House (Clinton).
Vermont senators...do you even realize how weak you make us look in the eyes of our enemies when you do something as irresponsible as calling for impeachment? You must really hate living in this country.
Just like children, you don’t see how transparent your motives are. Your distain for our President overrides your concern for the greater good.....our troops overseas.....our country.
Take your rattles and your blankies and move to Iraq. Your traitorous behavior will be more welcomed there.

Yeah, it's only the foundation of constitutional government at stake here, along with a bloody occupation, environmental hostility, defanged regulatory agencies, massive graft and corruption, grand theft election (two counts), and lies, lies, lies and more lies.

I can see how dealing with that kind of side issue might cut into the time needed to, say, decide which day is going to be Vermont Maple Syrup Day, or nominating the queen of the annual Brattleboro town festival, or passing a non-binding resolution naming the honey bee as the state's official extinct insect.

Yeah, so little time, so much to do. Deaf, dumb and blind motherfuckers.
