A vote for Ralph Nader is the same as a vote for George Bush.
"The only way to send President Bush back to Crawford, Texas, is to vote for John Kerry because, unfortunately, a vote for Ralph Nader is the same as a vote for George Bush," Dean said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.

Chairman of the Democratic National Committee, 2005-2009

I honor you, Howard Dean, for your bold stand against splinterism.

2. Dean is a party man. He supports the HCR bill being passed.
Too many people wielding his image as an avatar seem to ignore that.

8. What's the deal?
Why are you posting this now?

Because Dean was just plain wrong. A vote for Bush was a vote for Bush. A vote for Kerry was a vote for Kerry. A vote for Nader was a vote for Nader. A vote for the Libertarian presidential nominee was a vote for the Libertarian candidate.

Only YOU own your own vote: nobody else has a claim to it just because you are a progressive or liberal or a conservative or a libertarian ... or even if you are registered with a particular political party.

People are also free to vote tactically if that is their decision, it is also their choice to vote their conscience and accept the consequences -- that is what liberty and freedom in a representative democracy is all about.

So, why post this kind of message now unless one is seeking to actually create more division, controversy and "splinterism"?

the consquences of your vote.

21. I know but...
Most Nader voters still refuse to take any responsibility for the consquences of their vote.

9. I should have thought of that. So selling out is preferable from being
a thinking being in a democracy who is allowed to learn, analyze, and decided on his or her own preferences??

Good to know.

Thanks for bravely standing up for everyone's right to live in a democracy.

14. It helps ease their pain.
The longer folks can blame Nader and try and pin the 2000 loss on him, the longer they can ignore facing up to the dems own responsibility for losing the 2000 election and avoid making the necessary changes to fix things.

They also ignore that Gore nominated one of the most hated individuals on this board, Lieberman, to be his vice president and the message that sent to progressive voters. They pretend that Gore chosing Lieberman to be one heart beat away from the presidency didn't mean anything and then complain here about the large negative consequences of Obama's surrounding himself with a bunch of Wall Street types. They contend that the veep doesn't have any power and ignore the tens of thousands of posts here against the last eight years of Cheney induced hell and ignore Lieberman's almost single handed defeat of the public option not as a veep, but as a single senator.

They ignore that Gore didn't lose Florida because of Nader. He lost Florida because a large number of democratic voters voted for Bush and Gore's flawed fight to have the votes recounted and bad ballot design and the purge of bogus felon lists and the Nader vote. Strange that the most hate is shown for the most progressive leg of the failure.

But keep throwing blame at Nader so it's easier to ignore the democratic party's continued march to the right and increasing disdain for progressives.
