I'm ashamed of myself
I've been talking in my posts and other posts about smoking and Palin and other shit while CNN or MSNBC tells me more and more about the tragedy that is Haiti.

I transferred some funds to Doctors Without Borders and I guess I gave myself a mental "okay" on it.

I did my bit.

Right.

I won't miss a meal. I won't bury my family. I won't sleep without a roof, go hungry, wonder if I will ever see my friends again.

I should do more.

And I will.

Thanks for hearing me flog myself publicly.

1. Every little bit counts
But if you do more than just give money you'll feel better about things. All you have to do is make people around you feel better in some way. Listen if they need an ear or encourage when they need a boost, or simply smile and say 'good morning' to one of those homeless people everyone pretends not to see. It all makes a difference in someone's life.

2. If you can, please do
Because I seriously can't because I do have to pay for power and water and boy am I grateful that I can, and that I live in a country that will provide help if things get really bad, at least most of the time.

3. what's to be ashamed of?
Perpetual wallowing in tragedy is unhealthy. Perpetual wallowing in any single issue to the exclusion of all else is unhealthy. As long as you haven't ignored it or made light of it there's nothing to be ashamed of.

4. So fly to Haiti and help.
Seriously, your public flogging is unnecessary. You haven't done anything wrong.

5. What you did helped ....
What you do next will help even more. What goes in between doesn't matter. It is the compassion I see in your post and your empathy that matter.

Welcome to DU.

6. You should be...
But only in the eyes of Rush Limbaugh and Pat Robertson. But that is a good thing!

You helped, that is 1000% more than either of those assholes.

You helped.

Just gnaw a little on Bobby Terry's face and you'll feel better.

"You scrooooooed up, Bobby Terry!"

Sorry to interject onto a serious thread with levity, but I am a big "Stand" fan and couldn't resist.

Just curious, why would you pick the worst of the bad guys to have as your handle? I mean, we all know Vegas was FULL of Freeper-types in that book.

8. Don't flog yourself. Recognize that there are things too big for anyones indiividual effort.
You are not Jesus Christ or Allah. You could not have prevented this from happening. And it could have happened to you just as quick.
