COLUMBIA -- The state House of Representatives needed only about 20 minutes Wednesday morning to put nearly seven months of scandal to rest.

In a 102-11 vote, the House approved a resolution censuring Gov. Mark Sanford over his affair with an Argentine woman and for misuse of state aircraft. The censure serves only as an official reprimand and carries no penalties. The Senate now must add its approval. snip

The resolution censures Sanford "for dereliction in his duties of office, for official misconduct in office, and for abuses of power while in office that has brought ridicule, dishonor, shame, and disgrace to himself, the state of South Carolina, and to its citizens."

Sanford left the state for five days over the Father's Day weekend last June to visit his mistress. He admitted to the affair upon his return. He also said a longtime friendship with the woman first became a physical relationship during a taxpayer-funded trade mission in 2008.
