Yet it is often not a case of "making someone mad at work". Certainly that occurs, but how often is it more systemic? How often do we feel pressure from the "do more & more with less & less" mantra of our corporate or business world? We hear or see layoffs, closures, etc and fear for our own jobs, so we skip breaks, lunches, work sick, go in early, stay late, go in on days off (for just a few hours) do work from home after the kids are in bed just to keep up with the increased workloads that have been handed us due to those layoffs or closures in other parts of the companies in which we work. Our techie world never lets us get away from office email or phone calls and our bosses know that we can be reached. Supervisory types are under pressure for results and that pressure rolls down hill in the form of increased demands upon lower management and workers. (A bit of a compilation of several workplaces in my immediate family.....) There is no time to even come up for air or to run to the restroom. The phones are constantly ringing, the mail needs to be processed, the inbound emails need responses, every night this week you have a client with a function you must attend, there are three meetings before lunch (none of which make any difference, but you must attend and still get your regular work done). sales have been good but we need one more item per customer, we are coming out of the holidays impacted by a snowstorm, but yet supervisors expect your store conditions to be perfect in less than 24 hours despite worker call-ins and late or missing deliveries............
