1. It was 50 degrees (at least) in the southern tip of Greenland yesterday.

Also at least 7 above in Svalbard, which is located at ~74 degrees north latitude.

Mid 60s here in Vegas yesterday, after a couple weeks of barely getting into the 50s.

17. High pressure over Greenland......

...is what is causing the frigid air in the U.S. and Europe. The high pressure keeps the colder air farther south. Until the high pressure system sitting over Greenland budges, we will continue to see colder than normal temps.

7. It is 10 degrees here S of Yanceyville, NC (just south of Danville Va.)

We had a couple nights here last year that were 2 degrees here.
The local tv news just said the record cold for the triad area for this date was -5, I missed what year that record was set.

I grew up near Cumberland Md I remember some colder temps that 17 there and being snowed in that was back in the 1960s.
This is unusually cold here, has been for about a week. We still have a little of the snow on the ground from the pre Christmas snow fall and last weeks dusting (not much, but normally it is gone with in a day or two and was unusually hot during the las couple of summers).

I lived in South Fla for almost 19 yrs, I remember it getting to 25 in FtLaud in 85 I think it was. The old house we lived in was a 1940 vacation bungalo, we just about froze the only heat we had was the fire place it was meant to be more decorative for chill nights, those houses were not meant to be heated.

My inlaws in the Bahamas break out parkas when it gets down to the low 70s. We've had a solid week of -15F with windchills of -35F, and we're thanking our lucky stars that we don't live in ND or MN.
