Kerry Sez Cheney should go back to 'undisclosed location' instead of attacking Sen. Reid
This was a good statement. Very straight-forward and plain.

Kerry Rips Cheney’s “Interpretative History”

Says Vice President’s accusing Reid of being uninformed is ironic, laughable

WASHINGTON, DC – Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) issued the following statement today responding to Vice President’s Dick Cheney’s comments after the Republican Senate Caucus lunch.

“Dick Cheney’s attacks on Harry Reid are as disturbing as they are disingenuous. He is the American Idol of outlandish claims. No one has been more wrong about Iraq from day one than Vice President Cheney. The Cheney Doctrine has been a recipe for disaster in Iraq that has put American troops in unforgivable danger and made America less secure. The Vice President has only been consistent in his miscalculations and misdirection,” Kerry said. “I could hardly believe my ears when the Vice President had the nerve to accuse Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of being uninformed. This is the same man who claimed that we would be greeted as liberators in Iraq and that the Iraqi insurgency was in its last throes, when in fact the civil war was growing. It is time for the Vice President to return to his secure, undisclosed location to rejoin his neocon friends rather than attack the Majority Leader who is fighting to keep faith with American troops.”

Short of saying, "Go play in traffic and leave the grownups alone," that's pretty good, short and sweet statement.

But this man supported the IWR to begin with, so it will not be likely.

13. I think your logic is faulty.
First off, Kerry favored a different version of the IWR, and only reluctantly voted for the version that went to a vote. I won't go into his explanation, anyone who is interested should read his floor statement.

Secondly, Kerry spoke out against the invasion when Bush made it clear that he would invade despite the inspectors having been allowed back in and not finding anything.

Third, Kerry has spoken out a great deal about the war. Remember the Downing Street Minutes? Kerry was the first Senator to raise that as an issue, and he drafted a formal letter to the Intelligence Committee requesting that they be investigated. Only 9 other Senators signed his letter. Kucinich is not a Senator so would not have signed it, but what DID Kucinich do about the DSM? (I'm guessing he spoke out too, but I don't know).

As TayTay points out, it's not the role of the Senate to pursue impeachment. You may or may not see a formal statement from Kerry, but I am sure that is only a matter of him trying to guage what is the most effective way he can support it - to actually help bring it about or not hinder the process. It may be best sometimes NOT to speak out, or to even feint that "aw no, we aren't going there" until the evidence is so thick that the American people DEMAND impeachment.

But if I had to wager, I would bet that Kerry would be very happy to see this bunch of lying crooks* impeached.

Let's see what happens with Kucinich's iniitative in the House.

I would be happy to see that catch on, as would most of us no doubt.

24. Senators SHOULDN'T speak about impeachment because their role is as jury IF it gets
to the point where it reaches the senate.

I know some senators have spoken the i word, but in the spirit of the constitution, they should hear the removal from office case against a president without declaring that they support impeachment.

and Senator Kerry is in the Senate, not the House. The House is where Bills of Indictment or Impeachment come up. His support or non-support of it won't affect the House review of Rep Kucinich's submittal either way.

Edit: grammar

17. I think he can speak up like any other US citizen. I do think public support makes a
difference, even from those of us in neither chamber. and though i have not been one to follow kerry's advice, others may be more inclined to do so.

31. He's not in the house - and it doesn't look like Pelosi will push it
unless the early comments (people here, not Pelosi) were wrong. I suspect if it got to the Senate - he might be one of the people likely to vote for it given many statements on the constitution and Bush/cheney.

Dem voices?

The problem is the most influential Dem voices stuck closer to Bush 2001-2005 on terrorism and military issues and wouldn't provide backup for Kerry's attacks Bush on those issues.

Kerry has never played that game, and for decades has defended and backed up Democrats under attack.
