Tinley Woman Pleads Guilty for Hate Crime

Valerie Kenney, 55, of Tinley Park, pled guilty to one count of battery today in connection with an altercation she had with an Islamic woman in a grocery store Nov. 7.

According to prosecutors, Kenney made an inflammatory comment as she passed the victim in the aisle of the store. Later, while the victim was paying, Kenney approached her and began to tug at her headscarf.

The victim pulled away and the police were called. Kenney was later arrested and charged with a hate crime.
