So, Gonzo. What happens next?
He gets up on stage and looks like a buffoon. Typically he would either have the grace to resign or the president would fire him. Neither has happened.

So, do we just go on to the next scandal or what? I still haven't heard what's happened to resolve the issues with Walter Reed. New Orleans is still in shambles. Does Bush just outwait the news cycle and the next scandal/tragedy/drama comes up and we worry about that? Are there no consequences?

1. This is still ongoing in the Senate, and the House also has hearings coming up.

Also, the Repos who actually have to run for re-election aren't liking the Albertross around their neck.

The Dems don't really have to do anything except keep the information out there in the press. The Repos will eventually revolt and get rid of Gonzales on there own. It's stinking up their re-election plans.

All the fired USAs are in swing states. If I were a Dem campaign strategist, I'd be planning whole ad campaigns around this, and having Alberto still there would really help.

2. "I am incompetent. Get over it!" - dems will do nothing about it
really what can the dems do when gonzo admits to being incompetent and ignorant and quite possible stupid and criminal? these are the most desired qualities in a bush administration appointee.

4. I agree totally.
These are the kind of people who merit rewards for their service to the Bush administration. A little incompetence goes a very long way.

6. Why would the Dems want to get rid of him? It's the Repos who need to and have to.
Why make it easier on them?

"Senator Dominichi; Obstructing justice?" (ominous music, a shifting photo montage of Alberto lying his ass off. There is a gold mine of taped quotes to run.) "Call Senator Dominichi and ask him; Why did you have US Attrorney Iglesias fired Senator?"

Can't you see it now?

3. Unless they can find something that he did illegal, Gonzollaz will stay
What does that mean:

1. That bush is a stubborn ass, and believes his aragonance is more important than the republican party. What we have is an attorney general who was responsible for firing 9 attorneys but doesn't remember on what grounds. Either he is incompentent, lying, or both

2. I doubt it will happen, but if he resigned, bush would only appoint someone just as bad or worse, either way the country is screwed

In summary, I doubt anything will happen except this will just be another reason why the Democrats will win all three branches of government in 2008.

5. The Repos who have to run for re-election will get rid of him. Can you imagine the ad
campaign in those swing states where the USAs were fired?

We can only hope they don't, but i bet they will.

8. As the House does their hearings, as Goodling gets immunity and testifies,
as more e-mails are leaked, as the courts order the release of information, the Repos will cause so many problems for bush that he will either fire Gonzo, or, as a last resort, the Repos might just move to impeach him.

Did you see that Huckabee came out yesterday for Gonzo to go?

10. Survival is a strong motivator. I doubt it will get that far, but they will if they have to.
