12 Issues - Will Dems Sell Us Out on All?
Huff lists 12 legislative issues for 2010. I predict Obama and his merry pranksters in Congress will sell us out on each one. Here they are:
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/12/31/the-12-legislative-battle_n_408361.html

1. Dawn Johnsen, Obama's choice to lead the DOJ's Office of Legal Counsel.

2. Climate change

3. Employment Free Choice Act - Obama promised check card would be enacted

4. legislation concerning the future of American energy policy

5. Immigration

6. President Obama signed an executive order calling for the closing of Guantanamo Bay in 2010

7. Health care

8. Estate Tax

9. Deficit Reduction (in middle of depression)

10. financial regulatory reform

11. The House voted to create a Consumer Financial Protection Agency that would monitor credit cards, mortgages and other products. But the legislation was watered down and will face further opposition from the financial industry in the Senate.

12. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has said the president is on his own in persuading reluctant Democrats to fund the Afghan troop buildup. (watch Nancy cave)

I am betting we lose every one of these battles, from the point of view of what is best for the American people. Happy New Year!!

2. I challenge those who support Obama
to show me why I am wrong. I hope I am wrong of course, but god, we will lose on each issue - including lotsa Dawn Johnsens who won't get confirmed. The O-man is already way behind on judicial nominations, too.

3. You tell me which five and dime you got your crystal ball from, then
we'll talk. If you're so disgruntled, there's always rethugs/greens/socialist/other sites you can find your comrades on.

12. So Obama's corporate supporters bought the Democratic Party.
Sooner or later the people will be given the opportunity to vote. And if Obama's corporate supporters want to win again -- avoid a dismal and embarrassing defeat, they are going to have to give more than a bone to the voters.

Thus far, the record is depressingly bad -- except in foreign policy.

15. And I guess since Rahm appointed Obama to be President
Obama simply has to give Rahm whatever he wants.

I cannot find the US Code that points out that the Chief of Staff appoints the President but it must be there somewhere; otherwise why would President Obama constantly let Rahm frame the issues and the approaches to them?

13. Where is Civil Rights for LGBT people on that list?
Where is renegotiating NAFTA and free trade?

That list is definitely not complete. There are other legislative issues we are going to be pushing, and I bet Obama will either do nothing or sell us out on these too. :P
