In most cases aren't passengers the ones who bring down the bad guy in most cases... more so than air marshalls and cabin crew? Am I wrong?

1. Recently, that's true.
Before 9/11, not so much. But, then, stuff happening on a plane is a rare, rare thing, so it's hard to say.

3. Correct. Planes were hijacked, not liberated by passengers.

5. You carry a stiletto on flights? Really?
I figure a laptop corner applied rapidly to the temple would pretty much handle the problem. That's my plan.
