What is really twisted and sick to me .
We in america talk about health Ins and health care yet we send our own off to wars for corporations to bomb and kill other people.

How can anyone justify that? Isn't that the height of hypocrisy?

4. Bush's war in Iraq was a war of aggression
Afghanistan was a war of defense (although I think Bush blundered by not trying to negotiate with the Taliban for Al Qaeda). Afghanistan was also badly managed and neglected by Bush so the gains made there have completely disappeared.

Still as long as the Taliban is working with Al Qaeda our self defense needs require us to make every effort not to let them regain control of Afghanistan (which would happen if we pull out today).

12. Only if one takes a very superficial view of the world
if one applies even a little bit of critical thinking, one sees just how hollow your claims are. The FACT is the Taliban would easily recapture the Country if we were to pull out now. They are still working with Al Qaeda. So while there is only 100 now there will be 1000s if we go with your misguided plans.

Al Qaeda was hosted by and based in Afghanistan with the blessings of the Taliban. If the US were to pull out of Afghanistan the Taliban and Al Qaeda will return and Al Qaeda has not grown any fonder of us nor are they any less inclined to attack us again.

33. "My side" is against the rise of corporate influence in our political structure
Both the DLC and the GOP believe they should serve corporate interests even to the detriment of the people.

Everything from repealing bank regulations, to war, to the current pro-insurance giveaway originates with that way of thinking.

There isnt a bucket of warm spit worth of difference in fiscal policies between the DLC and the GOP.

The end result is always making things worse for the average person.

50. It's true.

The DLC gave strong support for the 2003 invasion of Iraq. Prior to the war, Will Marshall co-signed a letter to President Bush from the Project for the New American Century endorsing military action against Saddam Hussein. During the 2004 Primary campaign the DLC attacked Presidential candidate Howard Dean as an out-of-touch liberal because of Dean's anti-war stance. The DLC dismissed other critics of the Iraq invasion such as filmmaker Michael Moore as members of the "loony left" <9>. Even as domestic support for the Iraq War plummeted in 2004 and 2005, Marshall called upon Democrats to balance their criticism of Bush's handling of the Iraq War with praise for the President's achievements and cautioned "Democrats need to be choosier about the political company they keep, distancing themselves from the pacifist and anti-American fringe."<7>

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Democratic_Leadership_Council

Remember back then people against the iraq war were the "loony left" according to the DLC. Massive fail on that one.

Funny how history repeats itself.

There is no way to simply pass it off as we have no choice. If this is the nature of all of mankind then we are truely screwed and will always be screwed. When was the last time we had to defend ourselves? I am 61 and we never were attacked that justified defending our selves.

Tell me if there were not oil in the ME we would ever even care.

17. We had a choice in the sense that we could have allowed more Americans to be killed by more
terrorists attacks, but I figured that was unexceptionable to most people.

I responded to 911, I saw the towers burning and helped the injured. You might not think that was so bad, but I see it as an act of war that required a response.

46. The United States has been going through a militaristic phase
in which we tend to see violence and the solution, not only to geopolitical challenges, but to manipulating our own population.

Even our doves have grown talons and are hanging around with the hawks.

Andrew Bacevich explains it well in "The New American Militarism."

And no, we would not be in the Middle East if it were not for oil and pipeline routes.

Al Qaeda attacked the U.S. because of our military and economic imperialism. They attacked us because of our support for dictatorships, and because of our military presence in Saudi Arabia (Holy Land). And because of our support for Israel and their treatment of Palestinians. Osama bin Laden made this clear in statements released before 9/11. The attacks were against the Pentagon (the base of military imperialism) and the World Trade Center (the base of economic imperialism).

When we fail to see things from our adversaries' point of view, we make conflict more likely.

Many of the world’s most repressive dictators have been friends of America.

...They usually grow rich, while their countries’ economies deteriorate and the majority of their people live in poverty. US tax dollars and US-backed loans have made billionaires of some, while others are international drug dealers who also collect CIA paychecks. Rarely are they called to account for their crimes. And rarely still, is the US government held responsible for supporting and protecting some of the worst human rights violators in the world.
