Police: Man found choking woman charged with attempted murder

KNOXVILLE — A Knoxville Police officer interrupted a domestic assault early Thursday morning, according to Lt. Bob Wooldridge.

Responding to a call, Officer Michael Booker arrived at an apartment in the 500 block of Pertinax Drive shortly before 2 a.m. He heard a woman screaming inside. Booker went inside and found suspect Garland Watson sitting on the back of victim Andrea Watson, choking her and threatening to kill her, Wooldridge said.

Booker arrested Garland Watson after using a Taser on him, Wooldridge said. Garland Watson has been charged with attempted second-degree murder. Andrea Watson was taken to St. Mary’s Medical Center for treatment.

A nightstick to the back of his skull would have been a much better option.
