Are the SNL skits where men kiss each other funny?

If you are not familiar with the skits it's about a family who have guest over and men greet each other by kissing on the lips. Sometimes they tongue each other.


I guess they are trying to gross out the audience as the audience seems to react in nervous laughter at two men kissing, sometimes tonguing each other. Sometimes you hear "ooooos and oohhhhh" from the audience like they are going to gag.

I wonder if this is appropriate to laugh at and I would think it would be offensive to the GLBT community?

Or does displaying this cause people to think that why should they be okay with men/women kissing and not two men?

1. That's the whole point to the skit?

Does seem a bit questionable. Particularly since the point is "Two guys kissing each other is gross."

On the other hand perhaps it's more about the reaction of the audience, getting people to think about why they feel that "Two Guys kissing each other is gross." I don't know.

15. The one "debate" with Tina Fey as Palin with Queen Latifah as the moderator was funny.

The rest of their Palin stuff, especially the night that Palin was there in person was very weak material in my opinion.

3. I think it was expansive enough to be the family-kissing and not men on men

the funniest one to me was when the grandson kisses his grandma deep and hot - and then grabs her boob! - the age/family part was what I think sold the skit. If it had been about 'guys' who just knew each other kissing, I'd feel otherwise

I think anyone in a beard who is kissing someone or eating something is gross, whether they're gay or straight.

Bearded dudes shouldn't be allowed to eat or kiss in public, because it offends me.

7. The whole family engages in the excessive kissing.

It's obviously a gag written by someone who doesn't care for families who kiss each other on the lips or too much. Some people are really creeped out by kissing between family members, particularly on the lips.

I think they do what comedy is about - they introduce excess to make it funny.

In context, the kissing was about family excess, not gay v. straight kissing.

9. They're comedy skits so they can be, I don't think they're done as social metaphor though...

They seem to point to a shock threshold, and to that extent I find them less comedic as previous skits roll squirm and nervous laughter through the audience so much so...

Abby Elliott concluded the other night with, "Now this is a family!" An effort, imo, to bring the concept back around

22. The first year of SNL was the biggest stinker of them all.

I challenge you to go back and watch the entire first season. It's horrible. It was only funny back then because there was nothing else to watch, and it did have a few funny skits each week. But overall, it was almost unwatchable the first year. Too many musical acts. Too many stand up comics. Too many weak skits.

Of course, it was the mid 1970s on Saturday night, and almost everyone watching it was high on something, so it seemed funnier than it was.

I find that most who think it used to be good but isn't any more are just too set in their ways to appreciate humor aimed at the under 40 crowd.

but lately? no.

20. It's funny, or surprising because people are not used to it.

It is about as funny as if the women greeted the men by grabbing their crotch.

Since many still find it funny - mostly YOUNG people - perhaps you simply don't appreciate humor that isn't aimed at your age group.

I'm probably as old as you are, but I'm not stuck in 1985.

It's not about being old. It's about thinking the only thing that works is what you found funny when you were in the age group targeted by the show. It's still funny. It's just not funny to you because you no longer appreciate the humor in it, because it's not aimed at you.
