George Tenet Cashes in on the Iraq War
The excerpt below is posted with the full knowledge and permission, even encouragement, of the author, who wants his essays to be read by as many people as possible.

According to the Washington Post, Tenet’s “60 Minutes” interview about his new book will air on April 29, next Sunday. You can register your concern over profiteering from being wrong about a war at [email protected]. Also, post a comment about this essay at The Hill’s Pundits Blog (click the title, below), and it may be read by your senators and congressman! From The Hill’s Pundits Blog:

George Tenet Cashes in on the Iraq War

Brent Budowsky

Get ready for the great George Tenet book tour, following the highly paid George Tenet talk-for-pay tour. Presumably, when he milks his failures on the Iraq war for whatever it’s worth, he just might wear his Presidential Medal of Freedom, given by George Bush for a job well done.

I hope George Tenet discloses, or some media reporter will report, exactly how much dough he has pocketed in the aftermath of his shameful conduct surrounding Iraq.

You might remember Tenet. He was the star sitting behind Colin Powell when Powell was using his moral and political crediblity to pound the table for the United Nations to get behind the Iraq war.

When the dirt was dished about the phony intelligence, there was George Tenet.

When the decent opinion of humanity needed someone to show a profile in courage, there was George Tenet, slam-dunking the case for war.

When the national interest of America and the lives and safety of the troops demanded someone speaking truth to power, there was Tenet again, giving talk for pay, presumably sharing the wisdom and judgment he showed in the march to war…

Young kids die in the sands of Arabia, while George Tenet makes the big bucks, eating five-star dinners at four-star hotels, doing the courtier rounds to promote his misbegotten book, about the misbegotten war…

George Tenet should give every penny of profit to the wounded troops, hang his head in shame, and apologize to the nation.

He won’t do this. This is not the way of the courtier, the sycophant, or the profiteer.

Brent Budowsky is a former aide to U.S. Sen. Lloyd Bentsen (D-Texas) and Bill Alexander (D-Ark.), then chief deputy whip of the U.S. House. He is a contributing editor to the Fighting Dems News Service and posts regularly The Hill’s Pundits Blog. Brent can be reached at [email protected].

1. I'm still hoping to see Tenet sitting in the dock in the Hague with his
handlers.

Regardless if he turns on them in his book or not, he's still a traitor for heading the CIA and not speaking out about the lies.

2. Tenet is a steaming bag of shit. However, I have no problem with him writing a book.
Or touring

or going on 60 Minutes.

Keep in mind that Cindy Sheehan is held under exactly the same spotlight by our knuckledragging friends.

3. Yeah? Well, they're idiots
Cindy Sheehan didn't help to start a war, and George Tenet didn't lose his son in one.

4. Of course they're idiots.
I, however, will not join the chorus of condemning people for "cashing in" on their experiences, no matter how repugnant to me those people may be.

5. I have no problem with him writing a book
But any member of the Bush administration making money off a book about the Iraq war is like Richard Ramirez making money off a book about his murder spree.

6. Or Ann Coulter selling books filled with hate, or David Horowitz profiting from his lies.
I don't understand the attraction, and I won't spend a dime on finding out what's between the covers.

7. I just don't think he should be able to profit ...
... from being so wrong. I agree with Brent that he should give the money to wounded troops, including the mentally wounded.
