Obama "keeping score" quote is a joke from APRIL after the stimulus debate.
This is not a pro- or anti-bill post, it's just a warning about the FireDogLake post that is currently at +29 recs right now.
The AP reports that President Barack Obama joked around with Congressman Peter DeFazio and called him out for his recent vote against the stimulus package:

At a meeting with the president Monday night, DeFazio told Obama he wanted more infrastructure spending. Without prompting, Obama immediately recalled DeFazio's vote against the president's economic stimulus bill.

"I know you think we need more for that because you voted against" the stimulus bill in February, Obama told DeFazio during a question-and-answer session with about 150 House Democrats at the Capitol.

"Don't think we're not keeping score, brother," Obama added, as other lawmakers howled with laughter. ...

Later in the meeting, Obama told DeFazio he was "messing" with him and that he needs the veteran Democrat's vote on his budget proposal.

DeFazio said Tuesday that he took the president's verbal jabs in good humor — and instantly became a kind of Capitol celebrity. A fellow lawmaker approached him at the House gym and said he should be honored that the president called him "brother."

DeFazio said he agrees.

"There were 200-some odd Democrats in the room, he probably can't name half of them," DeFazio said of Obama. "He knows my name. He knows how I voted, and he knows why. And he knows enough to say I'm a tireless advocate for transportation. He got the message that I wanted him to get, and hopefully we can make common cause on this."

1. Why was that re-run? I guess Obama now has people on the left

who are devoted to turning him into a villain, just like on the right.

2. Wow. FDL does go too far occasionally, don't they. Thanks for
setting the record straight.

3. I don't see where FDL did a retraction yet. They should pull the story and the link.

5. that would mean two things tho
1: admitting they made a big mistake
2: if showing the real situation it would make Obama seem good :p

6. It's clear that FDL now has an agenda against Obama. They're losing credibility.

8. FDL quoted an article published in The Hill today
It wasn't clear when the president made the comment.

It's no secret that FDL opposes the WH on HCR.

He also opposed the $787 billion stimulus, citing concerns that only 7 percent was devoted to infrastructure spending.

DeFazio was one of only two Democrats to vote against those measures and the $700 billion bank bailout. (The other was Rep. Gene Taylor (D-Miss.) a Blue Dog conservative.)

Yet he’s also a pro-gun Democrat who has a B rating from the National Rifle Association.

“I would have less of a voice and I would have less respect if I voted for things I didn’t believe in because of pressure from the leadership,” DeFazio told The Hill in an interview.

Obama himself has taken notice.

“Don’t think we’re not keeping score, brother,” Obama told DeFazio during a closed-door meeting of the House Democratic Caucus, according to members afterward.

4. You know who is keeping score?
We are and everything this president has done has first aided the corporations.

Time to cut the corporate DLC bone heads out of governance. The corporate bone heads created the problem by always helping themselves first.

We thought we hired a community organizer and instead he hired the corporate friends first crowd.

Someone better own up to their fuck ups before the lame duck starts setting in.

7. I was not happy FDL ran that old story as if it was new but does not change that they are correct
on the substance. Corporations continue to gobble up what is left of America and we're just sitting here taking it and finding scraps in a miserable bill that we can say makes it worth passing.

11. So what? It's the set-up, additional context for the actual freakin story
Edited on Fri Dec-18-09 04:08 PM by chill_wind
FDL links to in the first sentence.

And it appears to be an ongoing one. DeFazio likes to rock the boat bit. THAT's the story.

Pelosi, Rahm do not scare Rep. DeFazio
By Walter Alarkon - 12/18/09 06:00 AM ET

Rep. Peter DeFazio’s phone rang. On the other end was Rahm Emanuel.

The White House chief of staff last month expressed frustration with DeFazio’s resignation calls for President Barack Obama’s top two economic aides — Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and White House chief economist Larry Summers — and appealed for cooperation, according to DeFazio.

But if anybody thinks Obama and Rahmbo aren't actually keeping score, despite more jocular tales, I just really have to laugh.

at the WH gov site and abolish all other reading material and opinion. Those are pretty nice, sanitary, non-controversial items and shouldn't upset or confuse anybody.

with this today.

I was pretty strident in my defense yesterday. I really hate to see some one discredited for the minor sins in what I've felt has been a powerful energy and advocacy for a better HCR bill among other issues. I felt she could be cut some leeway for the larger point she was making.

It may be time for me to moderate my attitude, at least how I respond to criticisms of people that get things wrong, are being misled or even maybe doing some misleading. I am sorry.
