Laurie David and Sheryl Crow confront Rove over Global Warming
Edited on Sun Apr-22-07 07:40 AM by never cry wolf
At the Correspondents dinner last night.

Last night Thelma and Louise drove the bus off the cliff or at least into the White House Correspondents Dinner. The "highlight" of the evening had to be when we were introduced to Karl Rove. How excited were we to have our first opportunity ever to talk directly to the Bush Administration about global warming.

We asked Mr. Rove if he would consider taking a fresh look at the science of global warming. Much to our dismay, he immediately got combative. And it went downhill from there.

----------------------

In his attempt to dismiss us, Mr. Rove turned to head toward his table, but as soon as he did so, Sheryl reached out to touch his arm. Karl swung around and spat, "Don't touch me." How hardened and removed from reality must a person be to refuse to be touched by Sheryl Crow? Unphased, Sheryl abruptly responded, "You can't speak to us like that, you work for us." Karl then quipped, "I don't work for you, I work for the American people." To which Sheryl promptly reminded him, "We are the American people."

At that point Mr. Rove apparently decided he had had enough. Like a groundhog fearful of his own shadow, he scurried to his table in an attempt to hibernate for another year from his responsibility to address global warming. Drama aside, you would expect as an American citizen to be able to engage in a civil discussion with a public official. Instead, Mr. Rove was dismissive, condescending and quite frankly a bully.

Go get him Sheryl!

109. Well, UPI is the once-venerated, now ruined news service that Helen Thomas quit after
Rev. Moon, who also owns the Washington Times, bought it and ruined it. It's a right wing tool--not really a tool, more like a right wing 'blunt instrument' nowadays.

4. Shows what a coward KKKarl really is. He cannot have a civil
discussion with two people and must run and hide anytime he isn't surrounding by sycophants and toadies. He pulled out that old chestnut, "I work for the American people." is extremely lame for DimSon's Brain. Not so quick on his feet in the light of day. He isn't smart, just corrupt and mean and amoral.

He knew he didn't stand a chance against two smart women, he is so used to addressing the 29% "morans" who believe any BS he dishes up so he ran. I'm surprised he didn't yell for security and have them removed.

31. That is an important point.. He gets a lot of credit for being so politically
brilliant, but he really isn't. He wins not because his politics are clever but because there are no moral or ethical limits to what he is willing to do. I could get ahead fast, too, if I had no conscience to prevent me from doing absolutely anything at all to defeat and destroy anyone or anything that got in my way.

WOWWWWWWWWWW! Excellent way to say what I feel, and lots of us feel! He's a coward, like Sheryl Crow was going to hurt him, she merely tried to get the weasel to address her question w/o running off like a coward (that he is), and he got snippy b/c that's all he could do to avoid it... he's an IDIOT. She's amazing!

114. I missed the deleted comment, but what you say is true--Karl WAS beaten up by a little girl
She was, apparently, a fierce Democrat, or Catholic, little girl....or both. According to Karl:

As long as I can remember, I’ve always loved politics, at the age of 9 I put a Nixon bumper sticker on the wire basket in the front of my bicycle. Unfortunately the little Catholic girl down the street was a couple years and about 20 pounds on me. She was for Kennedy.

When she saw me on my bike with my bumper sticker for Nixon, she put me on the ground, flattened me out and gave me a bloody nose,

Despite that beating I never lost interest in politics.

9. K & R (and more from the Huffington Post)
We felt compelled to remind the senior White House advisor that the US leads the world in global warming pollution and we are doing the least about it. Anger flaring, Mr. Rove immediately regurgitated the official Administration position on global warming which is that the US spends more on researching the causes than any other country.

We felt compelled to remind him that the research is done and the results are in (www.IPCC.ch ). Mr. Rove exploded with even more venom. Like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum, Mr. Rove launched into a series of illogical arguments regarding China not doing enough thus neither should we. (Since when do we follow China's lead?)

At some point during his ramblings, we became heartbroken to think that`the President of the United States and his top adivsors have partially built a career on global warming not being real. We have been telling college students across the country for the past two weeks that government does not change until people demand it... well, listen up folks, everyone had better get a lot louder because the message clearly is not getting through.

11. I turned on the rerun of the dinner and watched for a few minutes, and saw Laurie's husband in
the audience and wondered what the hell was he doing there. Now I know why they went. It solves that puzzle.

As to Rove...he was obviously the kid who was picked on in school, and I think that's why he gets so paranoid at confrontation. His life has been his revenge.

In his attempt to dismiss us, Mr. Rove turned to head toward his table, but as soon as he did so, Sheryl reached out to touch his arm. Karl swung around and spat, "Don't touch me."

Don't touch me? To Sheryl Crow? MC Rove's bolts are just a leeeeetle too tight.

I saw her sing at a John Kerry rally in Madison. She also was once quoted as saying "the Hammond B-3 is the sexiest instrument." She knows her way around a B-3, for sure. She scored cool points with me bigtime for that, seeing as I'm a B-3 player myself. :D

81. Laurie David's quote...
..."How hardened and removed from reality must a person be to refuse to be touched by Sheryl Crow?" I bet Kevin Gilbert's surviving family and mates would take exception to that statement.

I have no doubt Karl showed his ass, however my life experiences have taught me, "It takes two to tango" and, "There are usually three truths to every story. Your truth, my truth and the whole truth."

My bet is that Laurie was probably a bit confrontational herself and Rove took the excuse to ramp it way up like the snivelling ass he is.

Did you even read the link? Sheryl Crow is a music-stealing bitch. While using the stuff on the record was bad enough, calling it hers in public shows real chutzpah. And naming her album after HIS musical project? I can't even begin to describe how much she nauseates me.

I wasn't a fan of hers before, but after reading that link, NOTHING she does impresses me. Even this.

112. I'm very well acquainted with the history.
I'm agnostic as far as Crow is concerned, but from what I understand, there were problems on both sides (especially as it concerns that album, and also as it concerns the involvement of David Baerwald--whom I DO admire--and David Ricketts). But Gilbert was a horribly self-destructive person. To suggest that she was somehow responsible for his death is just outrageous.

115. We'll have to agree to disagree then.
I have been where he is.

All it takes is one person doing something as incredibly self-centered and cruel as she did to push you that little bit more over the edge. He might have been able to hang on if she hadn't appeared in public claiming credit for stuff that wasn't hers.

I love David Baerwald's work. It's unfortunate that she has decided to co-opt so much of others' art for her own. I couldn't stand her whiny voice before, but now I really can't fathom her fame.

26. Here's what the Post had online
Five graphs:

Global warming was the talking point last night at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner when singer Sheryl Crow and "Inconvenient Truth" producer Laurie David walked over to Table 92 at the Hilton Washington to chat with Karl Rove -- and the resulting exchange was suitably heated.

"I am floored by what I just experienced with Karl Rove," David reports. "I went over to him and said, 'I urge you to take a new look at global warming.' He went zero to 100 with me. . . . I've never had anyone be so rude."

Rove's version: "She came over to insult me and she succeeded."

Things got so hot that Crow stepped in to defuse the situation and then got into it with Rove herself. "You work for me," she told the presidential adviser, according to singed bystanders. "No," was his response. "I work for the American people."

News of the dust-up filtered quickly through the room. Some witnesses said David was very aggressive with Rove; a shaken Crow later said that Rove was "combative and unresponsive."

37. It's back up, then.
I see they note that there was a correction, and perhaps that's why they removed it. But I searched pretty thoroughly using keywords like "Sheryl," "Rove," and "Vitriol," and nothing would come up. It must have been temporarily down.

23. Stand By For The Right Wing Shit Storm...Whorie Kurtz Is On The Case
Ah...right on cue...

How dare someone question the all powerful Karl. The hate radio world lives for this shit. Be assured Mrs. David & Ms. Crowe are now officially "bull-dykes" and that these two women "assaulted" Rove and wanted to make a scene in front of the DC Press corp. We'll hear how they are every dirty name in the book and they'll be able to re-run all their favorite slams.

Yep...Whorie's already painting the "whacko" picture...how dare someone question the all mighty Rove and make a scene at a corporate media whorefest.

He knows he can never go out in public again without a disguise and body guards. His life as a free man is over, a prisoner of his own design. Fuck Ku Klux Karl. Ridicule him into History's dust bin. People should start asking him if he prefers thickness or length or when he expects to become the toss salad man.

27. How DARE those radical Green hussies ruin Rove's night at the Lapdog Dinner!
Why, I'm just clutching my pearls...

I loved this detail:
Like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum, Mr. Rove launched into a series of illogical arguments regarding China not doing enough thus neither should we. (Since when do we follow China's lead?)

Karl's merely ahead of the curve here! Best we get used to kowtowing to our Maoist overlords given his boss's failure to protect our nation's economy and security against the emerging megapower...

29. This is instructive
Some people mistakenly think that these people can be reasoned with or that civility will be of use with these folks. It is thought that "we should not sink to their level" but that disguises the nature of what and who we are facing and what is asked of us. These people must be confronted aggressively. You cannot reason with a fascist.

We should start a movement that you don't have to pay taxes if you voted for "the other guy".

That way, Bolton and Rove are right: they work for those who voted for them and owe the rest of us nothing. It would also get more people to the polls.

Before Rick James passed on, he trashed a signatured guitar that Sheryl Crow had left at Yahoo's Launch studios in L.A. a few years ago. Rove seems to be carrying on this tradition of going after Ms. Crow and being a "Super Freak"!

The number of times a high white house official has had to face an unfiltered public in the last six years, is exactly zero. Truly unfiltered-hasn't happened. Consider the deterioration in the Chimps appearance in the last 6 months.

They know the whole shit house (Raygun economy) is about to go up in flames, and that the proles will be coming with pitchforks when gas hits $5/gal and inflation hits 10%+, and there is nothing they can do about it except divert and spin.

And with the Dems having control of Congress, they can not longer control the entire message out of DC

They are cornered.

Beware cornered rats.

103. The old fart sure does have a type...
He dated a bimbo country signer half his age before marrying his newest trophy wife. It seems this lady finds power more attractive than physical appearance, and he has grandchildren by now. I guess between the top 4 GOP presidential hopefuls we have a total of almost a dozen marriages. And these are the virtuosos who want to shovel their "moral values" down our collective throats? No, thank you... Gays ain't the biggest threat to the institution of marriage; GOP presidential candidates seem to offer a bigger threat to such "holiest" of institutions.

Screw the lot of them...

Both Rove and Bush are just wolves in sheep's clothing, they play the "affable/lovable/joyful" frat boy charade to a t... Confront them head on and watch the facade disappear and the ghoulish underskin emerge in full technicolor.

The fact that all that 30% of mostly rednecks and hillbillies still think that they have a chance to have a beer with a Conneticut-boarding school attending, Yale and Hardvard legacy accepted, trust fund wasting, daddy coat tails ridding sociopat is a testament to the smoke and mirrors job performed on the American people by the so-called liberal media. The MSM in this country is akin to a battered/abused wife, taking all sorts of abuse through the liberal media meme by all the GOP spin doctors, while doing all the biding of the right wing elites in an attempt to earn their approval only to be abused yet again. Journalism at this point rates lower in my steem than prostitution. Unlike journalists, whores for the most part didn't chose their line of work...
