Berlusconi in Hospital After Attack
Berlusconi in Hospital After Attack

"Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was attacked after a rally in central Milan today and was taken to hospital with a gash on his upper lip and blood on his face....

"The premier was struck by an object thrown by a man who was arrested immediately. The premier will spend 24 hours in Milan’s San Raffaele hospital under observation, Berlusconi’s spokesman Paolo Bonaiuti said. The premier did not lose consciousness; he has a fractured tooth and a broken nose, Corriere della Sera Web site reported citing the hospital....

"Police are holding a man identified as Massimo Tartaglia, 42, in connection with the incident. Their arrest saved the man from being “lynched” by the crowd, Defense Minister Ignazio La Russa said, according to Ansa news wire. Tartaglia has been receiving treatment for mental problems at the Polyclinic of Milan for the past 10 years, Ansa said."

1. As much of an asshat that Berlusconi is, assault is never justified.
The guy would seem to be mentally unstable and that is an explanation, but I get nervous whenever the head of a state is assaulted in any manner.

Even the shoe event with Bush was unjustified. Heads of state simply should not be subjected to that sort of thing. If there are crimes, that is why we have international courts.

I dislike Berlusconi & everything for which he stands with a burning intensity, but there is no justification for acts of violence.
