I am a senior and I know what it was like before safe, legal abortions were available. We can NEVER return to that era. If a woman wants to end a pregnancy, she will find some way to terminate the pregnancy. That is just the truth on the issue and no matter where or what direction the abortion debate goes ~~ along with the sick rulings that can be expected now ~~ that does in any manner alter the fact that abortions will continue. PERIOD.

Just like with prohibition, when moral issues drove drinking and the making of booze underground, horrible criminal conduct resulted with health consequences to the public that often were far worse than what was out-lawed. IMO, this nation obviously did not learn the lessons of history or the five women hating males idiots on the USSC have forgotten them. Making something which is a private moral issue illegal only makes it worse and not better. There simply is NO way to legislate morality especially when the matter concerns no other member of society other than the woman actually involved.

In the case of abortion, the procedure has -0- impact on third parties. What the heck does it matter to ANYONE if his/her neighbor terminates a pregnancy? There is NO impact on anyone excepting the parties involved. It is clearly a personal, private matter and the state has NO grounds to be involved other than passing laws that duly licensed people provide the service under safe conditions. PERIOD.

This USSC assault on the rights of women which basically made women second class citizen to a fetus is totally disgusting. I in no manner am going to sit still and watch women be treated like they are too stupid or brainless to make important private decisions in their lives ~~ and to watch some die because a life-saving procedure was out-lawed by the insanity of the USSC. Those five old male farts on the USSC were outrageously out of line with this decision.

Actually, I already have a copy (hoping to get time to see it this weekend, but still have a lot of errands to get done), and I usually like to keep adding more to my good library of DVDs, so I think another bought and sent out to an appropriate person, either on SCOTUS or perhaps in congress or someone running for president. ALL of those people should be aware of the stakes of what is going on and how we feel about it. Perhaps we can have a thread where we can keep track of every member of congress and get someone committed to sending one to each of them (so we can get maximal coverage of congress from all of us).

If you do want to keep a copy so that you can have local viewings wherever you are (to progressive clubs, etc.), then probably you should get two then.

The nice thing about ordering this now too, is that the DVD is still early enough in its release cycle coincidentally (it was just released on March 27th) where we could affect sales numbers and perhaps have it show up on a lot of bean counters' charts that will help give it more attention too.

I'm trying to be cautious about this though. I want to be sensitive to the wishes of Gerri's daughter, who's posted here on DU, to make sure that us bringing back attention to her mothers' case doesn't force her to relive any nightmares that she's been trying to bury over the last few years. I hope that she can check in to one of these threads and let us know how she feels. Certainly we should all respect her wishes, though we do need stories like this (and there are likely many of them out there to find) to help us fight this taking away of womens' rights.

I think the release of this DVD caught her a little by surprise here from comments I received from her, and so I think we need to give her some time and room to get ready for its effect on her and all of us in this climate.

5. Yes, I've been haunted by that picture for years....I suggest we start

mailing it the 'other side' with a few questions..better yet, call them MURDERERS, like they call women who have abortions....you know the ones with the fetuses they throw around, pictures, etc.
