Unrec trolls strike again
I posted a story about a medal of honor winner getting to keep his flagpole and it gets unrecced right away. :wtf: The unrec feature is a useless piece of shit.

7. Thanks, but that not the point.
It's not about me. I didn't post even a word of opinion. It's a non-controversial story that DU has already discussed.

One of the problems with the unrec feature is it builds distrust. Are there trolls doing it? Are there people that are trying to make us look bad? People that hate old people? People that hate medal of honor winners? Home owners association board members? I just don't get it.

15. I know, but I also agreed that the old veteran should be allowed to keep his flag pole.
I should have mentioned that; sorry.

As for who's unreccing such posts...who knows? This is an open forum, and creeps do get in to disrupt; I don't know of any way of keeping them out. The price we pay for openness, it seems.

24. Maybe it is about you - maybe someone doesn't like you.
Seriously you have no idea. Maybe the person who unrecced is a firm believer in following the rules and this guy didn't. Maybe the person thinks tall flagpoles are ugly. Who the hell knows or cares?

Neither rec or unrec speaks to the quality of threads on this site they are tools to manipulate by many, there just isn't a reason to get all stressed about it.

2. and mentioning "unrec" will guarantee more. Why do people care about unrec?
it's anonymous and I just write it off to trolls. I hate when a DUer seems to stalk you around the board shooting holes in everything you say.

6. Because it's a Troll Support feature
and as the troll infestation increases hourly on the DU, Unrec defeats the purpose of the rec.

Sick of the trolls and sick of the Unrec "feature".

10. has DU ever had a vote?
I know Skinner owns and says what goes, but I agree that it's pointless. I typically dont care about the unrecs, but to see one pop up less than a second after posting shows nastiness from a troll or pissed off DUer taking their fight to your next thread.

13. It's been polled

It used to have support. Last time it was close to 50-50. More people are starting to dislike it.

But it seems like the more recs I got, the trolls just came in and unrec it. Its getting to the point now where I'm wondering why I came back to this place.

4. It's an ugly, pointless "tool," indeed.
I really don't understand how it became a feature at a place like DU. It seems to go against the values of community and constructive discussion.

some sort of lock-out switch. You cannot hit "unrec" any more times than the number of your posts.

16. Or public recs and unreccs.
The feature really needs to go away, but I'd love to know who's doing this. I bet it will stop then, but that hurts expression. That's why ultimately the feature is a failure and should be removed.

18. I consider rec and unrec as trolling tools...
Skinner should remove both if he ever decides to remove unrec.
