Obama cancels lunch with Norway's king

OSLO, Norway, Dec. 9 (UPI) -- The leader of Norway's right-wing Progress Party said U.S. President Barack Obama's decision to cancel lunch with King Harald is wrong, and poll results agree.

Results of an InFact poll indicated 44 percent of respondents said it was impolite for Obama, who will be in Oslo, Norway, to accept his Nobel Peace Prize Thursday, to cancel his lunch with Norway's monarch, while 34 percent said they thought it was "quite all right," broadcaster NRK reported.

Reaction was stronger that Obama would be leaving the country Friday before the Nobel Concert in his honor, results indicated. Fifty-three percent of respondents called Obama's absence from the concert impolite.

Progress Party leader Siv Jensen said she believed canceling the lunch at the Royal Palace was worse than skipping the concert.

6. Yep.
Although one of my uncles said that the reason was the way they used to preserve it, and now he said the frozen stuff wasn't so smelly. I don't intended to ever find out myself!

8. No, that would be Surströmming
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surstr%C3%B6mming

"Species of Haloanaerobium bacteria are responsible for the in-can ripening. These bacteria produce carbon dioxide and a number of compounds that account for the unique odor: pungent (propionic acid), rotten-egg (hydrogen sulfide), rancid-butter (butyric acid), and vinegary (acetic acid)."

Fermented herring out-stinks codfish treated with lye any day.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lutefisk

"Sterling silver should never be used in the cooking, serving or eating of lutefisk, which will permanently ruin silver. Stainless steel utensils are recommended instead."

5. Never ate it
Edited on Wed Dec-09-09 11:18 AM by Andy823
But growing up my grandmother always cooked it for the holidays. I remember when she started cooking it all of the grandkids would leave the house because the smell was so bad. None of the kids ever wanted to try it, including me, but the adults, at least most of them, ate it and always told us how good it was. I never believed them!

Impolite is putting it mildly... What the heck is wrong with our potus??? Every day I am more and more disppoined with him...specially in regards to his wishy washy stance on health care... if he wasn't going to press for the public option he may as well had not gone to meet with the dem caucus... very, very disppointing... and now he offends the king of Norway... ... is he nuts????
